Why not use Groupme?

So Whatsapp is the rage and MSN is getting phased out and all that. But surely Groupme is a decent replacement? Or does it suck like the other WP messaging apps too? Its cross platform so why not use that?

Groupme will switch from using data to using SMS if there is no data connection (or a poor data connection). That could present an issue, especially if one has contacts in another country.
