Why So Much Love For Metal Finish?

I'm just wondering why the sudden influx of phones made out of metal/aluminum? I understand that it gives the phone a svelte look and also makes the phone look very premium. Also, there's an idea that the phone is sturdier/stronger with a metal finish? I actually am a fan of that rubber type material on phones (HTC used this material on their 8X line and Blackberry used to use this material also). I feel like the rubber matte material makes the phone a lot more durable, I wouldn't have to worry about scratches or dents to the metal finish. What are your thoughts? Why so much love for metal?

It's probably just a trend that is popular now. I'm sure the designs will be completely different in the future.

You said it yourself. It looks premium. It does not make the phone stronger, though.

I'd rather have the Fabula design language back because it suits Windows Phone better.

I love the "look" of phones but I also find myself treating my phone with kitten gloves because I want to keep the premium look without the dents and cracks and stuff. I know I know...it's just an object and it's bound to get scuffed up sooner or later. The rubber matte material felt like it was able to take a beating and still looked good.

It ain't cool if your chrome don't shine. Metal looks good, plain and simple. Would you like to see a Mercedes clad in rubber rub strips all over to avoid door dings and shopping cart bumps?

Because it feels sturdier and giver better felling in hand. My love of Metal comes from my ex indestructible Nokia C6-01. It got some scratches in 2 years but that's about it. Although it wasn't made from aluminium but from stainless steel. Even the frame around the screen looks like it was from real metal because nothing peeled of like it does on Samsung Galaxy S series. And that after 2 years without any protection.

And mate finish is not very good either at keeping good look after a while. This happened on my Lumia 820 because I use pouch with string. It looks worse to me than scratched metal.

As someone who has used both the Nokia 6303 and C7... metal back plates feels awesome..... I still have the 6303 as emergency back up, and it makes a very decent alarm clock. One full charge will last for months!!!
