Why the built in Messaging + Skype app drains so much battery?

The Messaging + Skype app on my phone is draining battery like hell and makes the phone really warm. When I checked the Battery Saver setting to see what's draining my battery so fast, I see that the app is consuming as much as 45% of the total consumption with almost half of it used by the system running in the background.

Recommended solution has been to unlink the skype part of the app. Sign out of skype and skype video
