Why Windows phone apps have splash screen?

I get the point that splash screen look good instead of boring black screen ( if app takes time to load). But I am right now an Android user and thinking of switching to Windows Phone 8. On Windows Phone OS, it looks like most app have a splash screen. On Android, there is no splash screen in most apps, they open instantly. But on WP, why don't apps open instantly especially 3rd party apps.

Sometimes I'm in a hurry I just want to use app instantly, so splash screen may be frustrating, don't you feel. On Android and iOS, apps (3rd party also, apps open instantly, hen why not WP8???)

And I've seen videos where they tap on Display + Screen settings and it says "loading..." to load the brightness option. Even in System settings...?? Why??? Lumia 920 has 1.5 GHz processor.

On Windows 8, even the built in Mail app has splash screen which sometimes stays for 3 seconds (sometimes only, mostly it opens in 1 or less seconds)

NOTE: Some may say that I being an Android user just wants to talk bad about WP. But that's NOT true. I love WP, I am just asking this because I want to buy WP8.

My email and settings open instantly, I don't have any splash screens for those

If an app is already running it will not have a splash screen if the developer supports the resume feature that was made available for WP8. If you are seeing it then its just because either 1) the developer has not supported this available feature or 2) its the first time launching the app during your current session

Splash screen or not, there were some side by side app loading videos with the 920 and an android and the apps started quicker on the 920

It's cause when the developer creates their app, they forget to delete the file "SplashScreenImage.png" from the project. Either that or it's cause their app takes time to load and it's a WP store requirement to put a splash screen on if it needs more time.

I think this is it, especially on WP7 when it took awhile to launch stuff. IIRC Rowi removed their splash screen when they updated it to WP8.

Java apps on android also take time to launch. Just like .Net apps on WP. Apps that take a while to launch must have a splash screen screen on WP. On Android they might or they might not.

Either way, the answer is always the same. A user should get instant feedback as a response to user input. If a program can't deliver results instantly, then something else needs to step in, like a progress bar, or a splash screen.

Apple actually talks about doing exactly that in their developer documentation. There are various tricks you can use to give the illusion of faster app loading.

I find most WP8 apps load pretty fast especially compared to my 7.8 device.

However I am a bit shocked by the load time even on natives apps for Windows 8 and RT. Sometimes they are seriously slow that I feel like I'm waiting... and waiting...

custom roms have more splash screen then any other skinned UI out there.
