Why won't applications that work with Windows 8 work with Windows 10?

Two applications that I enjoy using won't work. Sketchup runs, but parts of it won't work. Simcity4 won't even open. Is it possible to make these programs run in Windows 10? If so how?

If not, how do I revert back to Windows 8? ... because, frankly, I like those programs way more than Windows 10.

Right click the program shortcut or exe icon and select Properties. Go to the Compatibility tab and set it to run like it did under Windows 8.
