Why won't my HTC One (m8) play music?

I recently loaded all of my music loaded on to my phone, but the phone refuses to play it. I select a song to play, and nothing happens. What's the problem with my phone, and what can I do about it?

are you running Windows phone 8.1? Also do you know what files your music is and have you tried using 3rd party music players?
