Why won't my new pdp wired Controller work when i plug into my Xbox one?

I've bought a new PDP wired controller for my sons Xbox one as there original controller no longer worked.
It doesn't seem to work when we plug it into our Xbox one.
They were originally using a wireless controller beforehand if that is any help?

Welcome to the forums. Have you tried going into settings>input devices and seeing if that might force the XB1 to recognize the controller?
