Will 8.1 help me?

I've recently bought a brand new Lumia 1020 from Amazon. Simply astonishing phone. Huge improvement over my Lumia 900! The only downside is battery life! I was supposed to get a free camera grip, but I didn't. When I took it out of the box it had like 30% off battery, and I was so excited to explore it so I didn't fully charge it that day. I'm kinda worried because the battery doesn't last a whole day and I've only had it for 3 days! Will 8.1 fix my problems with battery? Should I hard reset before or after? Will that erase things Microsoft points in my account (from the Gift Voucher app)! Thanks :)

Hey congratulations for your Lumia 1020. Windows phone 8.1 along with Nokia cyan update will improve the battery life. You may want to hard reset to get rid of other storage or any other issues after the update.

From my understanding WP8.1 should some fix battery issues and doing a hard reset after the upgrade is a very good idea. It removes any issues that may crop up.

All batteries take time to get going so do a few charge cycles and see what happens. It should get better.

Whether your battery will last the whole day depends on what you do with your phone. No phone will last long with heavy usage. This is a good article to read - 17 tips to extend battery life on Windows Phone 8 | Windows Phone Central

Before you do anything, you should backup your phone.

Anything you do with your phone shouldn't effect your MS points. I'm not from the US so I can't say for certain. Also if you were supposed to get a camera grip make sure you chase that up!

Well, I had it in my pocket for about an hour With my data and wifi off, and the percentage dropped from 100% to 89%
