The official update is released by your carrier, jumping on the developer preview will only mean you receive both stable and developer updates. So whenever your carrier releases the official final OS, your will get that too

Let me see if i understand.. so if i have de dev acount i will recieve the original or the dev preview from 8.1?

Well if the current WP 8.1 OS version does become the final version (nothing concrete yet) and you're on the dev preview then you'll only get the firmware update when your carrier/manufacturer releases it

Just for clarification: I installed 8.1 on my Verizon Icon through Preview for Developers(obviously). When Verizon pushes out its official release of 8.1 I will get that also? So, I do not have to revert my software back to 8.0 in order to get the official release of 8.1?

Thanks

i m not insulting anyone, so plz don't misunderstand.
u all are noobs (i.e. newcomers and non-experienced).
this all happened earlier also, while releasing GDR3.
Nokia has released Black update, and MSFT released GDR3 prior to that through Dev Preview.
all those, who updated GDR3 via Dev Preview, have received Black update when the Carriers released their update through OTA (Nokia released Black OTA, in case of non-carrier system, such as in India).
thus, don't worry so much. everyone is gonna received 8.1, as MSFT itself declared that, every existing handset shall receive it.
secondly, why Nokia owners are bothered, as now, it's owned by MSFT. they, obviously gonna release soon as possible.

You'll mostly get the firmware only since you're already running the latest OS, unless Microsoft releases some additional patches for the Icon/all phones before the official version rolls out. Nevertheless all you've to do is hit update from phone settings and relax!

You will get whatever update your carrier sends out. Period.

Nobody knows what the Preview for Developers program will release in the future.

The current WP 8.1 version is being sold on new phones. That's about as "final" as it gets.
He will get the official 8.1 version if his carrier sends it out to his type of phones. He will NOT just get firmware updates, though he will get those too under the same conditions.

This is not complicated. Why make it so?

Wrong, he will ONLY get the firmware (Cyan or whatever they decide to call it) update and not the OS update if he is already running the latest OS revision number, i.e. 8.10.12382.878. If Verizon decides to call 8.10.12359.845 (original 8.1 update OS version) as the final OS revision number even then he will only receive the firmware update. Unless Verizon gets a newer OS version than the current 8.10.12382.878 (which I was referring to additional patches between now and when they seed to general public) he won't receive any other OS updates. OS updates are cumulative and won't reinstall or get overwritten by an older or equal OS version even if its pushed by the carrier.

I hope I have made myself clear enough

Edit: There is a new os update today

i already asked u not to mind, as i didn't wanted to insult. and i am calling noob, bcoz u have not yet tried it. try out. it's easy. and not to worry. all warranty remains uninterrupted after official launch. and one insider info for u is, Local Nokia Care people don't even know, that such updates beforehand, invalidates warranty. :winktongue: enjoy.
