1020 phone replaced with insurance. Need to ship tp myself in another country. Advice please.
Hey,
So I've got a confusing question.
I smashed my Lumia 1020 on Dec. 31st, the day before leaving the country to Austria for 3 months for volunteer work on January 1st.
I had my mom replace the phone yesterday (I paid $55 for a replacement for the new phone replacement through the Microsoft store) and will need to ship it from Canada to Austria now. It is going to cost $150-200!
Despite this cost, it is a must that I have my phone. But I'm concerned with the value I need to declare. I only paid $55 for the replacement phone, and will have a receipt showing that I have paid $55 for the phone. But do I need to say the phone value too? It would have been a used personal item but now is just a personal item but was simply replaced through insurance...I've paid taxes previously on this a year and a half ago...
Will I need to pay VAT? Or will I need to declare a full value for the phone? Or I can just say replacement phone $55 and provide the receipt in the shipment?
Please, any advice would be helpful I can't find any similar mentions of anything online!
(On a side note I am shipping a couple dress shirts and pair of pants that I couldn't pick up in time for the dry cleaners too, so will have other personal effects to ship with the phone).
Thank you.
