Will Microsoft release a single screen version of Surface duo?

Will there be a version without the dual screen, and perhaps that may include a camera?

The current Surface Duo is going to have a camera too. I think they're not focosing on reléase a "typicall phone" during the time they spend with Android. Maybe, if this is just a transition in order to create a padding of a new ecosystem and get back a Windows platform (as it seems), after get they will develope a new traditional phone.

there are dozens of good Android flagships to choose from.

Duo has a camera but it will not be as powerful as current flagship phones.

duo can be used just like a single screen phone as well.
