We all (most) have been little disappointed with surface rt. don't get me wrong i love the product but i really had high expectation for it. Now my surface is laggy and crashes quite a few times.

My question to this forum is, Is this a problem of the hardware, the cpu not being powerful enough or is it just a software problem which can be corrected or improved a lot with an descent update (say- blue)?

Love to hear the forum's knowledge. :excited:

Well it killed my ipad2. Sold it the week after I got my RT to help pay for it. Yeah some of the base apps aren't great but with the monthly patch Tuesday updates and the knowledge that all the base apps are getting an upgrade is great.
As for being too heavy I can stand up on the train and play Pinball FX2 for 30 minutes in portrait mode without it hurting my hands.
If you think its heavy suggest you get down the gym - you can start by lifting the little plastic pink weights the girls use they start at 2lb.

Ive found it starts getting laggy or crashing when the battery is low or if I haven't done a full shut down for around two weeks. Shutting down and doing a full charge sorts out the problem for me.

I think its the desktop side that makes it slow. Yes, my RT can be slow to respond to touches at times, like opening a link or closing a tab in IE. But most instances its actually pretty quick. Scrolling and other gestures are never slow and it never crashes on me. So I am quite happy with my RT.

I find that if it gets too heavy after a while, I just detach the touch cover and it makes a world of difference. But no problems if only holding it for a few minutes.

Yrah - a really ipad killer. If u already owning that great gadget - just don't come and start complaining about it.Keep your faith bro!Just keep it!

I find mine gets laggy when there is less than 2GB space left on the HDD just like any Windows machine. Clean up your HDD and you'll be fine and also I agree with the other poster about low battery levels. Keep it charged up too.

The disk space is important. Mine got really slow and I was getting low disk errors. I cleaned up some space and its like having new computer. Super fast again.

I'll admit the performance of apps like fruit ninja and jetpack joyride are very poor on the surface and it shouldn't be since the surface is faster than the ipad yet the ipad mini my brother owns runs these apps at a smoother frame rate

Apps and more apps will make it an iPad killer. Unifying the stores will help. One store for all devices. Build one app, download on any device. That is the key. In my opinion.

The Surface Pro is an iPad/MAC killer combo. :)

I have not been let down one bit by my Surface RT. It's great and does exactly what I need it to do. It's better at that than my friends' iPads.

IMO, the Surface RT is actually a better laptop replacement than the Surface Pro, and it's actually decent as a tablet as well.

So, since the Surface Pro can get away with replacing the laptop, the RT can get away with replacing the iPad.
Built-in Office = iPad replacement

It needs cutting edge hardware, apps, and the OS needs to be completed so you don't need the desktop at all unless you want to. At that point, it could be an iPad killer.

For me, it already was an iPad killer because I cared more about PC functionality than games and apps. But as a tablet, it has a ways to go, which is disappointing considering how antiquated iOS is. Live Tiles will need to improve considerably, right now most are simply annoying rather than adding configurable interactive functionality like Android Widgets do. Heck, I can't even put my own background on the start screen. These things do matter, even if some of them are only to appeal to the shallow.

I agree with that. Neither the Pro or RT can fully replace a desktop, and the RT with RDP is a better mobile device for most people's needs. That's why I went with the RT and it has replaced my personal laptop for everything mobile. But the iPad is still a better dedicated tablet due to the apps and performance. It depends on what you need. I have no need for a dedicated tablet, so I never really had much interest in the iPad. But obviously a lot of people love it.
