Windows 10 Photos Aoo

In Windows 10, is there a way to download or activate the standard (old) windows photo viewer? The Windows 10 Photos app sucks for more reasons than I can say in one message. But the biggest problem is that it refuses to let me view my photos if I am not connected to the internet. I am in Ethiopia for a few weeks and internet is spotty. I take hundreds of pictures, transfer them to my Surface 3, then try to view them and it gives me an error and won't let me view any of them. Once I have an internet connection I can view them even though they are stored locally.

I would greatly appreciate any help with this. Especially if that help is how to activate windows photo viewer. Thanks.

You don't need internet to use Photos app, only to update it...
you can always download a portable photo app or something like XnView, IrfanView, FastStone, honeyview, etc.
it would be easier to do that tan just trying to revive the old thing.

and it worked for them, to use the old viewer.

then you can right click and open with and make it default.

Thanks. I know you don't need internet for photo app. That is why I need help, because it won't work when I don't have internet.

I will try the registry edit, but not until I am back home in the states and have reliable internet for when I break my computer and need help fixing it.

well you won't break your computer with those registry entries, as you can see it only work son the jpg format, that's all. you can really delete those entries and just have the format to ask you in what program you want to open jpg files.
but if you don't like default ones, like I said, it's easier just to get a 3rd party one and view your photos there.

but the thing is MS removed the extensions of all formats but tiff from the viewer. so the REGEDIT what tries to do it's to restore that.

you can do it manually but they give you everything, better than what I gave you since it was only jpg.
in the tutorial there, they restore many formats.

but also you could create a fake .tif file and open it with Windows photo viewer and then keep using the arrows to navigate through your photos if you don't want to mess with registry.
