Windows update caused ACER Notebook to lose it's OS settings? How can I recover?

An update today requested a restart on my ACER Aspire One notebook. The reboot now produces a blank "tablet like" screen with no access to my laptop programs. How do I get my laptop and programs back? The only "buttons" on the screen are "connect to internet", "ease of access", and "shutdown". What happened?? This laptop was running Win 7 Home and was successfully updated to Win 10 about a month ago.
