Windows Update problem!

After I have re-installed my Windows 8.1 OS I can't seem to get the Windows Update working, and have tried many things. So is it possible to install Windows 10 on it to fix the problem, as I heard you can get a Windows 10 for free if you have Windows 8.1? And I only have the OEM Windows 8.1 key that came with he laptop.

So can anyone advice me on this?

The free upgrade period to Windows 10 is officially over. Feel free to try though. Or you can download Windows 8.1 from Microsoft and start afresh.
