WP 8.1 OneDrive reliance, reminds me of allied WW1 parachute interdiction...

I am really disappointed that we still can not save/send files to our WP 8.1 devices, but have to use OneDrive.
This is about as a dogmatic decision as in WW1 when the Allies forbade the use of parachutes to their airmen. But the other side used them with great success.
This is more political than common sense. It has to change.

That's actually not true any more. Apps (including Microsoft's own stuff like Email, Skype, etc.) just would need an update to use the new file picker APIs.

Unfortunately, WP as a platform doesn't get app updates for new features nearly as fast as something like iOS.

Why would they allow you to uninstall it? It's crucial to the platform and when used appropriately, better than most the competition. I get files on my phone with almost no issues.

Apparently. I just don't understand it. Can you uninstall iCloud on iPhones?

iCloud is a service and not an app.

OneDrive is both a service and an app.

I don't understand why you wouldn't want to use OneDrive.

Actually, you do for manual photo back up as well as to view Onedrive photos. I'm guessing it has to do with how they reworked 8.1

Viewing, yes. Manual backup is known as uploading lol, its not really a manual back up. The back up service functions without the app, as far as I understand it. No way to test now that its built in though.
