I used to have a Lumia 800 and every time I connected it to the computer to upload my videos and photos it would ask me for the phones password. Now with WP8 there's is nothing like that. I connect my phone onto the PC and it shows all my files right away without the need of any password. Also if I remove my SD card from the phone I can have access to all the pictures and files stored in it. I don't think that is safe at all. If I have my phone stolen anyone can have access to the files in it without any password. How can I protect the files on my phone? I find windows phone very insecure as much as androids now. Can anyone help me?

USB transfer only works when your device is unlocked while plugged in. If you unlock the device while it's plugged in, and locks again, the USB host will still have access for that session.

As for SD: WP8.1 encrypts apps, but not user files. I can only recommend storing the files in an app you trust (which would then, by extension, encrypt the files), or only keep sensitive files on the phone itself. Also remember than Find My Phone allows your to remotely wipe to the device, so if stolen, you can ensure you data is destroyed and inaccessible.
