Xbox Music Auto-Play over Bluetooth?

On WP7 and WP8, when my phone has been connected to my car's stereo and I switched the car stereo to play music over Aux/Bluetooth, Xbox Music used to automatically open Xbox Music and start a shuffle of the music stored on my phone. Since moving to WP8.1, this no longer happens. The phone is connected to Bluetooth and works just fine, but it will no longer automatically start playing my music through Xbox Music. I now have to switch to Bluetooth audio on my stereo and then manually go into Xbox Music on my phone and press the shuffle button to start playing music or select an album. This kind of defeats the whole hands-free thing. Does anyone know how to re-enable this functionality? I've looked, but can't find an option do it.

Thanks!

I'm not understanding. You car's stereo automatically changes to the bluetooth input or not?

You say:

On WP7 and WP8,... I switched the car stereo to play music over Aux/Bluetooth, Xbox Music used to automatically open Xbox Music and start a shuffle of the music

Then you said:

I now have to switch to Bluetooth audio on my stereo and then manually go into Xbox Music on my phone and press the shuffle button to start playing music

I always have to choose 'bluetooth' on my car's stereo when it's not selected already.

For the second part of that issue, yes, I've seen 8.1 NOT automatically start playing once my stereo's input was on bluetooth, and sometimes it DOES start playing automatically. It's weird, and I'm thinking it's a timeout issue.

For example, if I go to pump gas in my car with the car off, I get back in and start the car it automatically starts resuming. But, if I get out of the car and come back the next morning, it does NOT start automatically.

Feature request or bug fix? :)

So, it is funny that you mention the thing about the music starting back up after getting gas or something because I just noticed that happen after stopping to pick up my son from daycare today. It started back up after being out of the car for a few minutes.

To clarify the first part of my question/issue description, yes, I do always have to select Aux to start playing music over Bluetooth. That step was just included in my overall description of what I have to do to play music. It used to automatically start when I switched to the Aux input, but now I have to do that and then take the additional steps of opening up the Music app and selecting to play from there.

What car do you have.

In my VW CC and Land Rover Discovery 4 I have the option to autoplay Bluetooth in both and with it on even if I am playing the radio, iPod or even a DVD when I switch the cars off the next time I start the car they would auto play Bluetooth without me having to touch/press anything. Now it won't unless Bluetooth has been playing within the last 30 minutes (tested at 28 and 31 minutes)

The only other way it works after 30 minutes is if I have the night heater turned on in the Discovery so I'm guessing that is has to be something to do with the cars systems going dead after 30 minutes and the reason it works on the Discovery with the night heater on is because when it is on it turns on different stuff in the car like heaters, defroster, seat and steering wheel heaters.

So how come it doesn't work when I get in to the car without having the night heater on because surely it is ready to work from the time I press the button on door to unlock the car.

Btw I use Nokia radio and not Xbox music.

Will - I've got a 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee. I don't really think that the issue has to do with the car or its stereo though because I was always able to get the music to automatically start playing with all previous versions of Windows Phone. It is only since updating to WP 8.1 that I am running into this issue.

Yeah I know, it always worked on my cars as well until 8.1

I built a habit of opening Xbox Music and hitting shuffle, before getting into the car (music is playing in my pocket).
Then, when the car starts, Bluetooth connects and my music plays through the speakers.
It would be nice to automate it, though (maybe have a "launch app" option in Driving Mode).

Sometimes mine will play after Bluetooth connects, and sometimes it won't. It's weird. It doesn't seem to be a timeout issue either, as sometimes it will resume after being out of the car for over a day and sometimes just stopping for gas will keep it from resuming. It used to do it every time without fail on 8.0, which was nice.

I have a 2012 Acura TSX and I have the exact same problem. If XBox Music does not have a song already paused then the car will not begin or resume playing music when the car's AUX/Bluetooth is switched to. This has only become a problem since 8.1. Previous to 8.1 it would begin playing XBox Music using shuffle mode automatically or resume playing if it had a song already paused.

Was this seriously not solved? Just switched from Android to Windows Phone and am outraged about this not just working out of the box. Now looking around the web, finding some people having the same issue, but really no solutions???

Is there at least an alternative music player that does the trick? some app or whatever? can't find anything... Seriously?

There is a new app, called Gadgets.
It will launch an app, when bluetooth or headphones are connected.
For me, I have it automatically launch Groove.
It doesn't start playing, but it's a step in the right direction.
