- George PonderEditorWe just received a review unit from Verizon. Give me a few days and I'll have a full review up. I will share that the initial impressions are good.09-21-2009 10:22 AMLike 0
- I have one, which was available only online when I bought. When I first checked stores, a rep told me it would either be late Sept. or early Oct. before it reaches stores. As far as for the phone itself, I had the iPhone 3Gs and the Blackberry Storm 9530 and this by far crushes both. (*Again, this is just my opinion.*) I've heard and read alot of negatives about winmo operated phones, but with this being my first winmo device, maybe I've stepped in when they got mostly everything right because I love it.09-21-2009 10:35 AMLike 0

- I did not put a GSM SIM card however GSM Global mode is available on the phone. I have not tried a GSM card for a US Provider. What I mean by unlocked is, GPS actually works with any app you aren't forced to use the default UI. This is the first Verizon phone I have owned that doesn't appear crippled.09-22-2009 09:15 AMLike 0

- kxs783kms can you elaborate on the crushing of the Storm. I had a Voyager before the storm and loved the keyboard but hated the browser and that it is a so called "dumb". I bought the Storm and hate the touch screen keyboard and the browser isn't much better than the Voyager but it is smart. At least it can email and text message and I have Rhapsody buffet on it. It's not horrible but I get no respect from the Iphone crowd or for that matter the hardcore BB crowd. I'm tired of having a toy or an loser phone. THis is why your comment on crushing the storm looks very interesting to me. The TP2 has a 4.5 star user rating on the Verizon site (yesterday it had 5 stars). No other phone is that high. I don't think any phone has been dubbed the Iphone killer and actually been one but this phone (TP2) appears to come close. The keyboard looks like it will be very good so the one thing I would like to see is a browser that can compete with Iphone. Since you have had both maybe you could compare them.09-22-2009 06:26 PMLike 0

I have a 3GS and a Sprint Touch Pro2. There is no beating mobile Safari (pinching and two finger expanding has just become the standard for interacting with a mobile web browser). But I will tell you that the Opera browser that comes on the Sprint Touch Pro2 (and the Verizon Touch Pro2) is very, very close.
So there is no pinch or two-finger expand. But there is double tab (which first zooms then expands). And the text on the web page actually wraps to the zoom of the browser. It makes browsing with Opera on the Touch Pro2 darn similar to the iPhone. And on CDMA networks (Sprint or Verizon) I would actually say the browsing experience is just as fast (although the scrolling is just a bit slow).
The nice thing about Windows Mobile is that you have choice in your software (Apple doesn't pretend to offer choice about the built in applications). So if you use Flash web sites there is a browser called SkyFire that is fantastic to use. Putting ESPN GameDay on you can actually see an entire football game update in near real time. Safari has no flash but has lots of nice separate applications to watch sports scores.
Although I have become fairly quick on the iPhone keyboard (especially in landscape mode) you can't beat the Touch Pro2 keyboard. And I've found on the 3GS that sometime if the soft keyboard comes on-line you won't be able to rotate the screen (never a problem on the Touch Pro2).09-22-2009 11:11 PMLike 0 - Zookeeper....eJonny stated alot of differences about the 3 phones that I 100% agree with, which made me settle with the TP2. Nothing beats Safari, but Opera on the TP2 is the closest. On the TP2 you have what many consider the best keyboard to ever grace a mobile device.(*You have the option to use a virtual or physical keyboard, which you don't with the 3Gs and Storm.*) The storm 1 had the virtual surepress screen which was cool, until dust and sand got under it. You change easily change the battery within seconds....(*not so with the iphone, unless you're willing to take it apart and unhook everything, replace the battery, rehook everything and put it back together....lol*) The iphone is more of a toy, blackberries are more business....TP2 is more business, but you can dive into the fun side of it with hacks,apps,software,etc....To put it in a nutshell, the TP2 is the iphone and blackberry storm combined. It kind of offers you a little bit of everything. Again, this is just my opinion and I am not partial to any company...Apple,Blackberry,HTC,etc. I just like good devices.

Really like how you refer to the tp2 as the iPhone/Blackberry combined. Hadn't really thought of it that way. But totally agree.- Share

- I also ordered mine over the phone. They initally told me that the "Touch Pro" is a terrible device that gets returned a lot. I told them I wanted the Touch Pro 2; they didn't even know they had that device, but they did find it in their system. Not very confident in the knowledge of the reps at Verizon.
So far I like it a lot. I had the iPhone 3G 32GB and the Blackberry Storm. The TP2 is a much more capable device than both, not just because of the form factor, but the overall software has a lot of advantages. You can use the HTC skin i.e. Touch Flo3D or turn it off for the traditional WM 6.1 look. Plus, you get the ability to upgrade to WM 6.5 so that is a plus. The iPhone is a capable device, but as a business device, it lacks big time.09-26-2009 01:46 PMLike 0 - Just a heads up; you definitely want to use Opera Mini Beta 5! The version of Opera that comes pre-installed is deece but the beta is flippin phenomenal!09-27-2009 02:06 AMLike 0
- I ended up buying my at the store but they didn't have any display models. They can get them from the warehouse and will ship them to you via Fedex 2 day select.
Got the phone and I love it! First smartphone (had the original Envy before) so it's a big change. Not thrilled about the extra 30 buck for internet but it is better than the 100+ data charge than the iPhone. I am looking forward to WM 6.5 but TF3D is working great. I tried just using the 6.1 interface and found it lacking.
Was going to buy the Storm 2 but I like having a dedicated keyboard tried usingt touch only keyboard and didn't like it.10-12-2009 08:17 AMLike 0 -
Might I make a suggestion? Most should post which provider they went with, could help with other's decisions later on, and without having to ask :)
Thanks10-12-2009 02:17 PMLike 0 - definitely get skyfire. I have watched whole movies on hulu.com and football games on channelsurfing.net on my moto q9c with it. definitely the best mobile browser for full internet use.10-12-2009 08:42 PMLike 0
- Oh, i figured that with the title of Verizon TP2 it was obvious which one I went with.
It was Verizon. After about a month with it I like it.
I like it because HTC and win mobile allows me to customize my phone and I can do what I want with it unlike the iPhone. Haven't used the GPS in it yet so I can't determine if its good or not. I did follow a few suggestions on the tips and tricks to free up some memory. The push internet and email, as well as enabling opera to show up in task manager so you can shut it off.10-17-2009 02:18 PMLike 0
