Adding new sounds for notifications (not ringtones)

I've been trying to figure out how to add new notification sounds. I've uploaded new ones into the My Ringtones folder, but these don't show up when I'm looking to assign a new sound to, say, new email notifictions. I've tried searching around for info on how to do this but so far have come up blank. Is this possible? I can't imagine it wouldn't be...

Move all sounds and ringtones to "sounds" folder under "application data"(sometimes this is under "my documents"). Unfortunately "ringtones" folder is useless. I never understood why, but I found this solution a while ago by accident when I tried to use a custom ringtone as a ringtone and a quick pop-up said must be in sounds. This solution also appears on WM's official site, which is good because I often forget myself. It does work.
