Hey Guys,

I'm late in getting this thread started so am going to need some MAD help!

I have the HTC Fuze here. Have put my SIM in and turned it on, but that's about it. I figure I can get my contacts and email hooked up fairly easily, but am in some desperate need of help.

If you can let me know straight up what I need to know/what videos I need to watch/reviews I need to read so I can get the most of this device asap, that would be great.

Also, what are all the specs/capabilities.

I'm basically blind come into this...

Getting Started

The Device has a program that teaches you touchflo and device setup. Tap the start menu (the windows logo in the left upper corner), tap programs, scroll down to the program that teaches you touchflo and device set up (I forgot the exact name of the program but its there). The main gripes are about navigating TouchFlo (screen sensitivity issues) and lag. So my suggestions would be to (a) adjust the screen sensitivity to your liking and to (b) hard reset and interrupt the AT&T bloatware installation. Those are simple fixes that should go a long way to addressing those two big issues.

Oh, and free the HTC youtube client.

Kevin Its a winMo device with the touch flo overit you mshould remember the winMo from last years go round robin It has not changed that much It like riding a bicycle. You just think a little harder and it should all come back. Then the touch flo just get used to that in the screen calibration and run through on the device. Search for answers in the wiki like has been mentioned. Get to it You can do the guys here can help and thwith the preo pro can help. Enjoy!

My shortlist (absent any custom ROMs which are trickier to handle):

• Diamond TF3D Config 0.6.7 (for TouchFlo3D optimizations)
• Schap's Advanced Config 3.3 (for all other WinMo tweaks)
• One of the newer Opera Mobile 9.5 builds (build 2745 should be a good start, make sure you grab the VGA install)
• Latest Google Maps with Streetview, or other GPS software (Garmin XT, iGo8, TomTom are all good)
• Live Mesh (you might need to borrow a colleague's login if you can't get in on the beta)
• Resco Explorer or Total Commander as a filemanager

That should be a good start to optimizing your Fuze. The configs should be relatively easy to figure out, but just in case, everything is well-documented at XDA.

There's a heap more great stuff for the Fuze, it just depends on your imagination and what you want to do with such a neat device. Just to give you an idea of the range of apps:
- Turn the LED into a flashlight/morse code signaler
- Turn the touch display into a remote wifi touchpad/mouse for a (HT)PC
- Turn the Fuze into an adhoc WiFi AP for sharing its 3G connection

And a word of advice: WM is admittedly a bit clunky OOTB (though TouchFlo3D does a good job of unifying the basic navigation). But there are literally hundreds of tweaks out there (and plenty of packages that combine the best of them) to customize the interface. So within a short amount of time, I would just bear with the minor interface gaffes and just rest assured that there are lots of ways to make it better.

Some of the very flexible things about Windows Mobile come in terms of email management (particular multiple accounts). I recommend understanding the ins and outs of just the mail features (it would take much longer than a week to understand all the different features).

So I recommend starting with the email from Microsoft that will automatically drop into your inbox when you set up your first account. It tells you how to navigate around the mail client.

I don't know what your main email account is. Windows Mobile plays very well with Exchange. But it also works great with 100% cloud applications like Windows Live. I recommend trying hotmail contacts and email on the phone (you can find out how here). I'm not sure RIM has a cloud strategy. It's interesting that both Microsoft and RIM are coming from the same place (corporate/enterprise). And it seems both have ambitions for growth into the consumer space (based on the success of Apple). But they seem to be going at it differently (RIM with very nice form factors -- pearl, storm, and flip, Microsoft with the much rumored Zune interface and Windows Live mobile services).

Then learn about the 3rd party applications that allow you to bring multiple accounts into one inbox (like this one).

Then finally learn a bit about Live Mesh. I don't know you'll be able to try it, but it's worth a shot at trying to get into the beta. I recommend first reading this about Live Mesh in general here (and trying to get into the beta). And then read this, which describes how live mesh works on Windows Mobile.

The Fuze, just like a lot of other Win Mo devices, can do a lot of things. But I think you might want to focus on its core function as a productivity workhorse.

The Fuze is highly capable of multitasking, and in order to take advantage of that, you should try various app-switching applications. My personal favorite is Task Facade from (none other than) xda-dev.

You can find many ways to remap the ptt button to task facade, but you may not have enough time to do all that tweak and still cover everything. So instead, you can go to Start Menu -> Settings -> Buttons to set "long-click send button" to launch task facade.

By the way, if you do decide to tweak it a little bit for better responsiveness (and possibly for better power management), try Advanced Configuration Tool. I have attached my settings that I found to help with overall responsiveness, including that of TouchFlo 3D. You can load from Menu -> Import provisioning XML.

Just disable TouchFlo in the Today settings (uncheck the box). I may be in a minority, but I find the device MUCH more enjoyable to use without it.

Oh, and of course get rid of the ATT crapware... =P

Granted, these suggestions are exactly in-line with the rules of the competition -- or are they?

Break out the stylus, and write / draw with PhatPad. It is sweet on a big, beautiful VGA screen like the fuze has. I realize that you hate the stylus. But you should really give it a try. And it has a magnetic switch. Whats not to love.

I would also consider setting up a Mail2Web account for free Exchange service during the test. You can use this to do free ota sync of email,calendar,contacts, and tasks. You set it up through the Activesync program on the Fuze.

i use gmail for my email....

No direct way.
I forward mine to Mail2Web, but it wont reply (you have to do a send/recieve in the gmail account to reply from that account).

There is an experimental imap idle service to get push imap, but the settings are a little raw, and it doesn't do a very good job of reconnecting if you lose data.

Oh almost forgot, you should check out Skyfire too.
It's a browser that fully supports flash in browser (no more watching vids through streaming player).
It's not fully optomized for VGA (a lil blurry at times), but it works really well.
It was just featured on the Android Central review of the Treo Pro.

Oh you can also do it with flexmail (supports imap idle), but that's not free.

Out of all the solutions I've used so far, Exchange has been the fastest and most stable. It adds an extra step if I want to reply from a specific email address, but I've had maybe 2 days of downtime over the 2 years (or so) I've been using Mail2Web.

Yeah. It functions very similar to opera mini in that respect, but you've got full access to most pages. It'll even play streaming banner ads (which I guess would be a downside to having really tight flash integration).

Give it a shot. It is really incredible.
