It really depends on where you are. Before the iPhone, AT&T had some really bad spots in Chicago. I could pin point them. They made a lot of improvements after they started selling the iPhone here.

In Chicago, the only wireless service in the tunnels of the L was AT&T and T-Mobile.

Like I said, it depends on where you are.
I agree, Chicago was terrible. Im northern burbs and I had to get a landline at my home because my iPhone had absolutely no service. Its been remarkable how much better it's got since 09. That was my first and probably last time I stray from Verizon.

Sorry but AT&T is still awful in Chicago. They have weird dead spots right in the middle of what should be coverage areas and good luck keeping signal with them inside buildings.

Verizon has neither of these issues.

As to WP and Verizon you need to understand that Windows Phone needs Verizon far more than the other way around. Thus it would behoove MS to work with OEMs and do whatever pot sweetening is needed to get a high end Windows Phone on Verizon - and preferably on their LTE which is the #1 hot item in smartphones right now.

Has the HTC Trophy been popular enough at Verizon to open their eyes on new WP7 hardware and software? I've had the Trophy since intro and still when I go into any Verizon store, the Trophy is relegated to the back wall with no ads or posters anywhere in the store. If Verizon has something going with Nokia, I suspect it will be a small investment on their part and another wait and see period.

I am seeing more national MS ads for the system and I'm seeing more reference to IOS having seen it's better days. Maybe, just maybe, 2012 is the jump off point for WP7 and Verizon.

I don't like this article concerning any upcoming Verizon phones.

I read this the other day, but if I recall correctly, Nokia has already stated that they will be coming to the US in early 2012 with LTE devices. I assume this is to directly deal with Verizon and the US' entire 4G-fanaticism. However, that may mean that Nokia is the only Verizon WP we see for a while.

Yep, I am actually looking forward to switching to 4G. 3G at my house is mediocre, but my friend with her Thunderbolt gets a great signal here. From what I understand is that 4G really does have much better building penetration.

Aren't the latest rumors for Nokia and LTE is with AT&T since Nokia makes GSM phones and it would make sense to start with what you have.

I am thinking that the 4g Nokias will be on both VZN and ATT The 900 has long been rumored to have ATT bands and there was a VZN team at Nokia World That would seem to a strong indicator that VZN is coming with a new and probable LTE WP device and ATT as well. I would hope perhaps essentially the same devive it would be nice if it would have LTE radios for both VZN and ATT in the same phone IMHO!

At my local Verizon store, they don't even have a Trophy on display - it's only available online. Tells me one of two things: either they have completely given up on WP7 or they expect a newer, better device soon. Given this article (Windows Phone Needs LTE To Succeed, Says Verizon - Mobility - Mobile business - Informationweek), I'd say the former. Or they've at least given up until there's an LTE phone available.

It also cracks me up they're dogging on WP7 for not being 4G, yet their biggest seller, the iPhone isn't 4G either. They also still have plenty of non-4G phones, including fairly newly released phones.

I don't put a lot of stock in the fact that there were VZW reps at Nokia World. Nokia World is a trade show by a large handset manufacturer who may have lost their way for a bit but is still a large manufacturer of handsets and certainly is not out of the game. It doesn't hurt to have a rep there to see "what's up", but being there doesn't mean a deal is being made, either.

Their biggest seller is Android by a huge margin, not the iPhone. Go to their stores - their reps don't typically steer people to iPhones but instead to whichever Android they think fits that user. VZW is an Android shop and WP7+ needs to break into that mindset if the platform is to have a viable future.

When I was in there last week the rep told me the iPhone outsells any other single phone. I'm sure that if you combine *all* (or even the top two) Android phones together, then of course it beats the iPhone. But against any other single phone, I would bet the iPhone is the biggest seller.

It sounds like Verizon wants an LTE WP phone or none at all. From this article (from a VERY Windows-biased author, no less), it sounds like there won't be much of a WP presence, if any, at Verizon until Tango comes out and LTE is supported. Bummer...

Which I still find hilarious that the iPhone doesn't support LTE, but they'll continue to kneel at the altar of Apple.

That's all thanks to the sad fact that Apple has an incredibly devout group of lemmings that would follow them to the depths of the underworld if it meant getting their latest gadget. It would be foolish from a business perspective to not "kneel at the altar of Apple." I wanted to think that Steve Jobs just had some kind of magical voodoo powers to convince people that they need an iPhone, but the 4S seems to be selling like hotcakes too.

Apple is just a cultural phenomenon...much like Star Wars, Tim Tebow, and McDonalds.

Okay theres an article here in the WPC news area that says that ATT and VZN are "toying" with an LTE enabled Lumia 800. This goes along with "confirmed " reports of the Nokia 900 Ace having LTE 16 or 32GB storage memory FFC (or not) So hopefully LTE will be here during Q1 2012 in both the Lumia 800 and 900. Hopefully this will some life into all you VZN Trophy users that upgraded phones are on the way. And continue to stoke those of us on ATTwho are waiting for an LTE enable device. Now we may have a choice!

Well it makes sense since you can build one device and sell it accross many countries since it's GSM.

I'm with Verizon for the long haul, so CDMA with embeded GSM for world wide travel is what I'll have to live with.

If WP7 is to take off they absolutely need new devices on Verizon, and those new devices need to be higher end and LTE.
