Since I'm on Verizon, it looks like my choices are going to be either the HTC 8X or the Nokia 822. One thing that really makes me lean towards the 822 is the super sensitive touch screen. That feature really appeals to me since I live in the midwest and would be able to use gloves in the winter and still operate my phone without taking them off. On the other hand I do like the 8X alot due to its higher res screen over the 822. Decisions, decisions. What does everyone else think?
I would weigh the other factors. For example, how important are things like skyping in HD (8X win) or expandable storage (822 win), etc.

I'm currently on Verizon and will be switching to AT&T as soon as the Lumia 920 is available. I was on AT&T for many years, had the first iPhone, some Blackberries, and some older flip type phones and have never understood why everyone loves to hate on them so much. Their network has always worked fine for me. I also live in NYC so maybe that makes a difference, but once I get another hands on with the Lumia 920, I expect I'll be leaving the At&T store with a red one in hand.

Iowa here too... No way I'm going for a low res screen on the 822. The 822 details are not official yet, are they? Will it have the same screen the 920 has?

The 8X has always been my 3rd choice after the ATIV then the 920, but if that's all there is at launch on Verizon then so be it.

I agree with that, It get's too cold here in Nebraska...

So a Huskers fan that lives in Iowa. No faith in Iowa Western?
No thanks on the Iowa Western team (however they are playing really well). I've been a life long husker fan surrounded by a bunch of Hawkeye fans! GBR!

Not getting anything on launch day. Probably in January or February unless a super sale hits on Black Friday.

I'll be picking up the 8X since I'm on Verizon. I can't say the 822 impresses me and I won't switch to AT&T just for a phone.

I don't know yet. I had a huge problem the other days and couldn't pay my cellphone bill, then I have rent this month so they are going to cut my services. But I hate my carrier so much I'm on the verge of ruining my credit and never pay them a cent.

I don't know what to do to be honest. I could open a contract with T-mobile but I'm pretty weary of Windows Phone 8. The secrecy rubs me the wrong way.

Don't let temporary frustrations convince you to ruin your credit.

They suffer a very minor inconvenience. You suffer a hit for years.

    It's not worth it.

I can honestly say pay the bill then leave. I did the opposite about 9 years ago and it cost me way more in fees and deposits from that bad spot on my credit then the cost of just paying and leaving.

I'm still holding out for a launch ATIV on Verizon, but I doubt it. I'll have to settle for the 8X with the smaller screen, battery and storage.

But since Windows Phone 8 is going to rock, its like settling for the slighly less hot chick... she's still hot bro... she's still hot. :)

Had my heart set on 920 on Verizon, but now that I know that's not happening ill just wait on it. The 8X is fantastic, but not "wowing" so ill just wait until a Microsoft branded phone (I will buy instantly no matter what) or Nokia flagship on Verizon

strongly considering a htc 8x... its beautiful...

but the thought of a MS branded phone is even more appealing... so if i do upgrade, it will be the 8x. $99 is a no brainer

Right now, my plan is two 8X devices: a blue one for my wife and a red one for myself. Why the 8X? Well, my wife doesn't do much other than Facebook and some web browsing on her netbook, and she really won't do much else with a smartphone (other than calls, emails, and messaging). I use my current Focus for communications, information, and some internet use. Neither of us need 32GB of storage, since we don't load up with games or music (if I'm playing music, it's via a streaming service). The only real media we have on our phones are pictures made with the camera, but we also have a mini DSLR, so the phones are more for those priceless pictures when we don't have the mini DSLR or when we're just out and about. We'd each get a lot out of the wide-angle FFC, and I'm a heavy Skype user, so that wide-angle FFC would work out better for me in that regard as well.

There are alot of good things about the 8X. I would get one but I don't want a small device, I want a big one :D. The Ativ seems like the best for what I am looking for but I dislike how it looks. My 1st choice was the 920, but it's not on Verizon so the 822 may get my vote... possibly. If I really don't like the 822 and the Ativ cost's 200$ then I will get the 8X. My worry about the 8X is HTC's bad track record for build quaity. I don't want a phone that breaks on me every time I turn around.

If the 920 doesn't come to Verizon, then the ATIV S for sure. Much better than the 8X IMO.

Shyt man...we are practically in the same boat...i have exactly the same point of view about everything u just mentioned. I too am in a bit of a quandary. HTC 8X or Lumia. But considering the fact that i won't be able to afford 920, pulls me back to 8X. I just can't stand Samsung so Ativ was never even an option.

All that leaves only 8X. Don't know if i am happy or sad...

Nothing on launch day for me. I'm courious to see what happens with 7.8 and also to see if a microsoft surface phone will actually appear.

For now I'm excited to see all the wp8 offerings. I read this morning that Best Buy has sold out their 920 preorder

Interesting there seem to be so many people holding out on buying a phone at launch. Part of me agrees and thinks its likely a very smart move, but the Windows phone lover in me really wants to see these new generation of devices succeed. For that reason and the fact that I'm incredibly satisfied with the 920 hardware, I'll probably buy one in the first week.

I do plan on taking the wait and see approach however with the Windows RT products. I'll prob wait for a second gen Surface or some other Windows RT device that comes along after CES next year.
