That would REALLY be disappointing, can't believe they would have cancelled it without a backup. I sure hope otherwise but I also suspect you are right :/

I've had an HTC Titan II for 2.5yrs since the day it came out, I have WP7.8 hacked onto it and the screen has been shattered since February but I still will hang on until a phone worthy of another 2yr contract comes around the corner...

I shattered my 920 last week right before a business trip. Ran out and got the 635 off contract for $99 and its a surprisingly capable little guy that is going to hold me over a couple weeks to see what is announced on Sept 4. After I upgrade, it will just be a backup device for me.

Same here. My 920 contract is up in a couple weeks and I think I've decided to pick up a used 1520 and save my upgrade for the next Windows flagship. I just can't bring myself to go back to iPhone or android.

Thats a good idea. That is what I will do. My contract is ending by mid-nov. There is no chance of getting anything new for Holiday season. Better way is to get a used 1520 and save some money on contract. Windows 10 phones should start coming in spring.

I'm in the same boat. I'd consider doing something like that, but the cost of our cell plans don't go down once we are out of contract. Each month out of contract I'd be giving AT&T money to subsidize a phone that I don't have if I don't use the upgrade. As soon as my contract is up next month and my upgrade is available I'll get an iPhone 6. Once Windows 10 phones are released I'll see if anything catches my eye.

What's great about having an iPhone is that they hold their value very well. You should be able to sell it and get enough cash, or almost enough, to buy a new WP off contract. And I agree that you should upgrade as soon as possible, since you're paying the subsidy anyway.

I am doing something similar, I am probably going to pick up an 830 off contract, remove my 920 from the plan, and put the 830 on there. that should drop the price of my bill since bringing in a phone you own is 15.00 / month instead of 40.00 for a subsidized phone on contract per month. Then when a good phone pops up, I will be ready to hand over y cash lol

Mobile share plans get a service discount every month when out of contract.
Below 10gb=$15/mo. discount
10gb and up = $25/mo. discount

If you can't pay for a phone outright, the Next program is a good solution.

The only people that benefit on the old plans are the heavy data users grandfathered on the unlimited data. Even if you have unlimited and you don't really use it, it's often less cost to downgrade to a lower data package on mobile share, get the no contract discount pricing for just service, then finance the phone on top of it with no money down and no $40 upgrade or activation fee.

I have a grandfathered unlimited data plan. Unless I ran the numbers incorrectly, over a two year contract period my old plan is still about $234.00 less expensive than a 2GB mobile share plan. The numbers only begin to flip in the third year, but at that point I would have gotten another subsidized phone starting the process over or looked at whatever new plans are available then.

You can upgrade and keep your unlimited data. Did you see the threads on AndroidCentral about it?

Thank you, I know I can keep the unlimited data plan. The issue is that if a person is on a plan with a subsidy that person is throwing money away if they don't use the subsidy. Combine that with a lack of suitable AT&T WP flagships - some of us find the 1520 & the HTC One M8 (eventually) unacceptable for various reasons - and you can see the bind that some Lumia 920 owners will find themselves in next month.

Ah OK. I thought you were implying that you have to buy outright to keep your unlimited data, adding to the cost. TBH I don't quite understand your train of thought.

Yes, I definitely agree with you on wasting money if you don't upgrade as soon as you can. If nothing else, a person should get a subsidized iPhone and sell it. This is especially true if you're waiting on a Windows Phone, because they often drop in price rather quickly if you're willing to wait a bit.
