I ran to an article about virtual desktop/office: https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2017-07-18/this-startup-wants-to-replace-your-office-with-3d-holograms.

It took me some time to notice, that they (https://www.metavision.com/) were not using HoloLens, but their own technology. Somewhere between HoloLens and Mixed Reality headsets (which are just VR - unless they use the cameras to render real environment in the future - confusing :eck: ) in tech and price.

To me it looks like pretty awesome tech, unless one needs to walk around much. Z-buffer is like from 16-bit games, but hey, if one can fist-fight with giant 3D-eyeball, maybe one can get used to that :excited:

The true reality shows through the holograms, because there is no shutter-matrix to block that. I believe that HoloLens handles that?

that 45 degree angle for the glass leads me to believe it is just using HUD projection, where a pico projector is shining on the glass which is just reflective enough to make the reflection visible. Not a really new tech, but if they can avoid misalignment disorientation then it should be fine for some cases. I think this will run intot eh problem of you getting crosseyed from trying to focus on something 1/2 an inch from your eyes.
