Is it possible to download updates from anywhere other than Windows update? If so, then would it be possible to try the preview on phone? (the non x86 parts.)

a) There are no non x86 parts in the W10 TP.

b) The W10 TP is not the same OS that will end up running on phones.

c) When W10 for phones is ready, you'll get it through the developer preview program first. We'll be well into 2015 at that point.

A. Wrong, there's an x64 version.

You might want to read up on how "x86" can refer to both an instruction set (x86 vs ARM) and the "bit'edness" of software (32 vs 64). I think it's fair to assume, in the context of your question, that you were referring to the former.
