How to clean space from "emails and messages"

My phone is a Lumia 535

The space that the category "emails and messages" occupies is 2,60 GB. How can I clean it?

Have you tried getting rid of some messages/emails?

I don't have many messages or emails stored in my phone. After all the app shows only emails from the last few days.

I found my Mail and Messages went down from 200mb to 55mb after uninstalling Facebook.

I think Facebook's sync feature may partly be the culprit here.
