2GB RAM and WP10

I heard that the Lumias which have 2gb ram actually uses only 1gb ram for the apps and the other 1gb is dedicated only for the camera. Is this true?

And if that's the case... Will WP10 allow the phones to use the full 2gb ram?

Thats probably false, and it should be, and if its not , thats plain stupid 1 Gb is way too much (exclusively reserved for camera or any kind of apps ) whole ram should be and is available for any app, (other than os reserved ram).

I don't think that is true.

Well, I think it only applies to the Lumia 1020 if it is true.

Also I don't think we can really speculate on that. Will it make a difference?

No way, there's around 200mb of ram reserved for the OS(for all wp) iirc, rest is the apps.

The 1020 is a unique case, it has 1 gig dedicated to only the camera, but that's the only phone with a memory limit that big.

i have said this before, i think, but having been a 920 owner for a long time, which is a 1gb device, then moving straight onto a 1020 (2gb, alleged 1gb reserved) with the same SOC etc, i noticed that verything i was used to using daily, was snappier, and this was over time, not just when the 1020 was new, so my unscientific feeling was that somehow, somewhere the 1020 was using more than 1gb for normal operations.

well, its not impossible, maybe it lets apps use that extra gig of ram but clears it once the camera is opened?

could well be, i guess, i truly don't know, it just it feels quicker in practise, it would be interesting to know how they actually utilized it officially. maybe the slow opening (comparatively) on the 1020, is, as you say, a clearing process, of the RAM - but now i am just guessing :)

Have 2gb ram. The memory management has really improved with windows 10. You could have 15 apps open and they will all resume quick(if they are 8.1 apps)

I hope they optimize it a little better for 512MB devices because my Lumia 521 lags severely on WP 10. I'm scared to try it on my daily driver, my Lumia 925.

It is true for the Lumia 1020. The Lumia 1020 is basically exactly the same as a Lumia 920 (a 1GB device). The second 1GB is "tacked on" for the camera.

It is not true for any other WP device.
