Reasons to move from Android to WP?

Totally true. But I doubt there will be a change. Reading through this thread even fanboys find it hard to explain why WindowsPhone (the OS) would be the better choice. Livetiles? Android's widgets are more powerful and customizable. Camera? Thats entirely hardware-related and there are many Android devices with impressive cams. Awesome keyboard? Android allows you to install your own keyboard like swype which perform much better. The lack of Apps for WP has been widely discussed just as the quality of the apps available often lack features compared to their Android counterpart. Also anything related to updates crawls painfully slow to the devices out there. Took so many months to roll out Denim. Same thing going on with Windows 10 mobile: delays delays delays.
There is only one reason you might wanna get a WP: you wanna be different. And (probably) low on budget and have very limited usage scenarios for your devices with focus on simplicity.

that's why everybody i know tends to turn off any widget running in their android phone. widgets just suck the life off of their phone's battery.

you also don't need to install swype like gesture keyboard in windows phones, it's built in.

I used windows 7.5 using an htc surround. Liked it because it was so different. I also liked Symbian. It wasn't power hungry and had to be specked out to be responsive. Live tiles are great. Lumia cameras with pureview give great results. I've used windows 8.1 its very solid but may be missing a few touches. Windows 10 technical preview is what I'm currently using. It's far from perfect but you would like the way it's going. Plus with feedback Microsoft is actually listening to the users. And it's great to be part of deciding what you the user wants to see when using your phone rather than a corporate decision. The os is fluid simple responsive. Most apps are available. In terms of the Facebooks whatsapps etc. So I don't think the OP will lose out. I would encourage you to try a windows phone in the store and depending on your finances buy a device which caters to your specific needs. (heard good things about the 640 and 1520)

windows phone is good and i like windows phone so muck. Recently Kaspersky say windows phone have top notch security other than IOS and Android. But I want Microsoft release some update for fix some bugs and errors regarding Glance screen, and when i receive any notification and messages my phone does not wake up when my phone is lock. And i want Microsoft release update for every device and it's become more advance in technology.

@OP

I would approach your decision this way.

What do I want out of my device?

Asking people who are fans of a device to convince you to change is not an honest endeavour. You're going to get major bias, lots of old tirades and basically people saying things that may or may not be true.

It tends to start OS wars as well, which has become very boring for someone like me who went through the Apple/PC wars many years ago.

So I will put it this way, start with that question I mentioned at the top. Find out if WP will suit your needs. Then decide if it's worth it.

At this point no one can guarantee that W10 will be any different in developer take up than WP8/8.1. If apps are not that important to you then WP will suit you just fine. In that regard.

One of the downsides of WP, for me anyway, has always been battery. Not entirely sure why but I'm not alone in this. I didn't want a 6" device and I had issues constantly when using my WP to the point I had to buy a new phone. Also some updates have not been that great for WP, causing issues with some phones while others were fine. It's not been as clean and clear as people make out.

So my opinion, wait for the new hardware and for the OS to settle after the W10 update before considering WP or Windows Mobile.

If you're curious at all, buy a 640 and check it out. That would be the safest bet. You can always sell it on if it's not what you wanted.

There is no reason to switch windows phone.
I also buy lumia 640 xl few days ago and now I felt that it was my wrong decision.

I know that windows phone lake the apps but I don't know that the apps are already in windows phone that also are no usable. they all are crap.

yes games are good and working smooth without any problem even you don't find any bugs.

but in apps there is lots of features missing lots of bugs and not even single app devloper update there app in after 3-4 month.

facebook is made by microsoft and it has lots of bug lots of features missing and microsoft not working on that and even facebook (the Company) not try to make there app for windows phone.

you don't find any video player work without problem in windows phone I still don't believe that 5 years of windows phone os and still there is not even single good video player available in windows phone.

so I personally advice stay away from windows phone.

buy any android phone but not windows phone. lag is better then dumb phone.

So, my colleague bought an android ... and is perplexed why apps get installed on his phone without him knowing... The usual casinos, games icon/apps crap started populating his start screen... That's Android in a nutshell...

No idea what apps he's installing but never had this issue. There were some apps when I got my phone (country specific) that I simply uninstalled and that was it.

Never had any issue with any app so far doing anything like this. Then again, I stick to proprietary apps most of the time.

versus iPhone:
-open environment
-great hardware at the right price (e.g. my Lumia930 screen looks much better than iphone's, same can be said for the photos etcetc)

versus android:
-more secure
-great hardware at the right price
-2x battery duration

In other words every friend of mine (android or iOS user) is always amazed by my lumia930 because of its screen, camera, OS look and feel, the only problem is the app gap. When they need to take a photo at a party they always look for me, and it is a wow-effect everytime they see the picture :)

That's a rather bogus statement. There are lots of questionable apps on Android and everyone knows it. Just like there are on every OS.

As for WP being a smartphone, it seems to do that just fine. Not sure what your definition is but I'm pretty sure WP fits that description.

You appear to have hate. Hate isn't a good thing. If you don't like WP, don't use it. Not sure why you're hanging out here if you hate it so much.

I would advise anyone to leave Android for WP if this were 2013. But in 2015 there are no compelling software reasons to leave whichever mobile OS you're on unless you can get all of your apps and have virtually zero monetary investment in that OS. Family members of mine just got the GS6 and G4 and both came from a Lumia 920, both love their new devices leaps and bounds beyond WP8. The Windows 10 devices likely won't be groundbreaking, so if you don't mind waiting another 4-5 months for what are right now 6 month old Android devices thats what will be available. Currently Windows Phone hardware resides in some post-apocalyptic wasteland. If you are looking for bleeding edge hardware run for the hills now, because here its more like a butter knife. The only saving grace will be some kind of deep integration with Windows 10 and other Microsoft services that go beyond what other devices will offer. But there's no reason to invest now because there is no benefit to being early to this party. I'm waiting for W10 to see if I'll be staying with WP and I'd suggest the same to those looking to migrate to it.

While I wouldn't use Android because I find its UI/UX horrid, there is no reason I could suggest to the average person that they would be better with Windows Phone.

Good luck Microsoft selling phones that have yester -year's processor.... Even the upcoming so-called flagships are going to have the Snapdragon 808 and 810, which are not only having issues, but also be deprecated by the time the phones come out. Android phones have already started jumping to the snapdragon 820 by september.

Windows current state is simple:
8.1 (software) is awesome. Apps are limited. Hardware is crap. Perhaps W10 hardware and universal apps will change that, but that's where we currently are

Had a Nokia 930 - loved it on WP8.1, the live tiles are something completely unique and exceptionally useful and make the UI more personalised than any other smartphone, think of the homescreen as a page full of your own post it notes, simply brilliant, the people hub area is also a nice simply easy way to pull all your facebook, twitter etc...updates together, but not unique as Blinkfeed on the HTC devices does this equally as well.

Apps....now the apps although most of the general ones are there, I would say apart from a couple that are as good if not better, most of the quality is far behind that of the iOS and Android versions of the same thing, if you like social gaming forget it, zynga have only a few poorly produced games, yes Asphalt 8 is great, but still only runs a medium graphics detail on the flagship L930.

My advice to Microsoft = Stop faffing about and get your app store sorted, WP8.1 is spot on as a UI, but is let down by its app support and this is the reason I have returned to Android.

EDIT: But why do I constantly miss my Nokia 930 ? if WP could directly install .apk apps from Android now that would be the perfect smartphone and i would never look back, please tell me this maybe possible one day
