Updated from 10149 on the 830. No hard reset. Retained everything including custom glance backgrounds and Lockmix lock screen wallpaper. Had to reset my start background picture though.

Went smoothly, everything working good as before. Will report back. Mobile hotspot initiated on first try.

Good. That's how a smooth update should go.

One thing I have noticed is that my standard apps (weather, news, music, etc.) are not updating automatically from the store. When I click check for updates, it doesn't find any. But when I search for the app, it starts updating.

It can't be stressed enough:

Hard reset is essential. Essential.

You will also have to go through a couple of rounds of updates and soft resets in the Store to get everything updated (some apps don't elect themselves for updates until others have been done, and Store itself is one of the apps thus necessitating the reboot partway through).

I updated from 8.1 since that's what I'd been using recently due to a catastrophic SMS error in 10149, thinking an in-use 8.1 would be far enough back. That's not enough. You have to hard reset. Mercifully, it was quite a short process after intalling 10166, since all it did was reinstall the latest WP10 without sending me all the way back to W8 - very soon I was right back in again.

The data settings do not want to stick either. I entered the values and hit save, but when I go back into the setting, it's empty.
