Whatever I do it does not clear up the missed call notifications... I.e repin the tile or soft reset... is it a known issue? If someone has found a solution point me to that thread.....

You have to navigate to the call history view while in the phone app for them to be recognized as read. The default view in the phone app isn't the history view its the dial pad, so it's easy to only open it to call people and be confused as to why the count isn't going away. It was one of the first issues I had and I sent feedback suggesting they clear the count every time you open the app regardless of what view it opens in.

I did all that even deleted the missed call from history ...but still it is there .... lets see if it gets resolved by itself or we wait for another build ....

I had a similar issue. What I did was I dialed my Lumia and hung up after a couple of rings. Then after navigating to the call history and back to the home screen, the notification number finally went away.
