I have no stock messaging app on this build. It is missing completely. I cant send or receive text messages. I checked the store no updates. If I cant resolve this I will definitely have to back to 8.1.

Anyone have the same problem or offer a fix?

Use the messaging skype beta app as that is what's being used to replace the messaging app as it combines that and skype into one app.

huh? how do I even set that up? I don't see skype messaging app beta. Do I have to download that? I logged into skype but no text messages are even coming through into my phone.

And am all the only one who has this problem and is it a common thing across the build, I'm sure I would have heard about it, if it was. Plus gabe did not mention it in the blog post that this is a issue. Your response is like this is some known, common bug or something.

I still have the Messaging app on my 1520. I'm not sure this build would have gone out without such a key piece of functionality.

Tried a hard reset or going back to 8.1?

Mine was missing too on my lumia 730. But using skype messaging beta instead. Without messaging I cant even login to gmail account because of two step verification. Is there any way around to get it back....??

No, it is well known issue, you can either, try to install this old messaging app or new Skype messaging app introduced not so long ago...

Great! I had it (skype messaging beta app) in previous build but it's better to have a choice anyway. Thanks

Open this link and install. I had the same issue. So bad of MS not to include the beta if they are wiping out the stock one.

Same here, no stock Messaging app on my Lumia 635 after update (Build 10512 -> update to 10536 -> hard reset). I attributed it to not having a SIM card in the phone, but maybe that wasn't related at all.

I also can't get the links here to the Skype Messaging Beta to work either. It tells me on the page "To use this app, upgrade to Windows 10.", but I don't see any way to select which phone to use (I have 3 on the account - one WP 8.1, one W10M and one WP7).

I was missing the messaging app, both times I've loaded 10536 on my 1520. Thanks for the link to the app on the store. Submitted feedback, that's what these builds are for! Squish those bugs MS!

After using the links here on my phone, I manager to download the messaging app.
I hope MS makes it so I can select target device on a PC too... It used to work that way.

Looks like as of late, it appears they can't kick that habit lol.

Thanks for the links guys, makes people lives easier and I'm pretty certain I'm going to need them too as bad luck always seems to follow me around like a stalking thunderstorm. as decided to update to new builds and if it get's stuck not too fussed fixed it last time around using the bootloader loop.

Edit: Well what do you know, phone updated without a hiccup and it did not even ran remotely as hot as it when I installed a build previously. It did as reported take awhile just around hour, most probably I moved all the data off and a hard reset before updating (not before I did a back up via settings).

Also can confirm I have the messaging app, the late update is due to the fact I left the phone alone for an hour - Update started at 6.30am or so, finished around 7:32am or thereabouts. Tried to navigate, but it was choppy so I just left it and now it is buttery smooth with the random ghost tap.

Random ghost tapping is 1520 broken screen thing you may want to take it to Nokia/microsoft care.

You may find the app disappears after hard reset

This happened to me after doing a hard reset.

Super inconvenient. I couldn't text my girlfriend for quite sometime because of this miss.

I don't understand why they would remove a critical component of a phone. I'm quite sure it is because of Messaging Skype Preview.

What's worse I couldn't find the Microsoft Messaging or Messaging Skype Preview in the Store.
