How NOT to install downloaded update?

My Lumia 920 on AT&T is at OS version 8.10.14219.341, just updated last evening, and when I checked for updates again, Windows Mobile Insider Preview (slow ring) downloaded an update. It wants to update to Windows 10 Technical Preview for phone (10.0.10166.0). How do I prevent the update from installing?

I am afraid that you have to go back to 8.1 using the recovery tool.

If you haven't installed it yet, go back to Insider and change to fast ring, then check for updates again. I don't know if this will work or not, but it's worth a try.

But won't that download a newer version Windows 10 update? I don't want to update at all. Edit: Just tried and Windows Insider won't check for updates while an update in pending.

Oh sorry, I misunderstood your intent. I'm afraid BaritoneGuy is correct then. You may be able to reset your phone to factory default from Settings without the recovery tool. I'd probably try that first.

Yes this would work as well as the update is not installed. Thanks for pointing this out. This is a bit less work for the OP.
