I've been seeing the news about build 10586 being Threshold 2 and I've read this on WMPowerUser:

"According to our sources, build 10586 will be the build which many users will be getting sometime soon, starting this month. Obviously, the update wont be available at launch for all users and it will take quite a bit of time to roll out to all users depending on their region, as well as carrier"
So it means that Threshold 2 or 10586 is going to be the final build? Why Threshold 2? When was Threshold 1?

"Threshold 1" or simply "Threshold" was Windows 10, build 10240, the one released to the world a few months ago.

"Threshold 2" is the next major public release.

Oh ok! But what does it have to do with the mobile version?

Well...it's not going to be as important for mobile as it is for PCs, but it will also bring some new features, fixes, and so on. It also may be the RC build.

Actually I think its going to be RTM, both for mobile and desktop.

That's the feeling I'm getting according to some news sources but not from others (like here).

More consistency in the UI, colored title bars on modern apps, menus look better.

Something to do with syncing messages between PC and mobile, and something to do with notifying you on the desktop if you miss a call, some other stuff I probably haven't even found yet.

I'm as clueless as you are, though I think there was an article about it a few days ago.

It means that the public release for W10M is going to be a buggy, half-baked mess. It is nowhere near ready to be released to the masses.

Not a RTM, but a RC (release CANDIDATE), one of the previous before RTM

okdoki! So a RC is a build which the developer seems to fit to become the RTM. That does mean that the RC gets published and as long as the there are no serious bugs it will also be the RTM. Note: if the RC has serious problems, the developer can release a second release candidate (or even a third, but not much likely).

what we use now (10581) is a preview build. you could also name it a beta version because it's unlikely that MS will put anymore new features inbetween 10581 and the RTM build (presumably 10586).

If MS pushes 10586 to insiders this week, this will be a RC. It will also be RTM if MS will publish 10586 to the public in the coming weeks/months.

It's a cumulative update for every Build that Windows Insiders have received for Windows 10 since Build 10240.

This kind of came out of the blue. I'm excited about the Windows 10 update since I know exactly what it entails, but the entire Mobile business is sort of in the dark. I guess we don't have long to wait, eh?
