Windows 10 build 14388 for PC and Mobile now available for Fast Ring Insiders

Issues? Bugs? Solutions? For all things Build 14388 of W10M. Discuss it all here.

[NOTE]Tip: Check out this thread before posting
    http://forums.windowscentral.com/win...ml#post3467172[/NOTE]
Is your device behaving oddly, is something just not right? This is the place for discussion of software and hardware issues!
[TIP]Here is some useful information you may find yourself needing.
Some issues with responsiveness and app delays can be resolved by either restarting your phone or performing a Soft Reset.

If things get a bit more serious, you may opt to perform a hard reset or software reset.

Lastly, if things really get serious, you may need the Software Recovery Tool to recover your phone back to working order - head over to the Microsoft FAQ Page for more information.

Make sure you check the official Windows 10 Mobile Support Page as well for some of the most common tips and trouble shooting guides.[/TIP]
[INFO]Restarting your phone involves turning it off and then turning it on again. Turn off your phone by pressing the power button until you are prompted to "Slide down to power off". Turn your phone on again by pressing the power button until it vibrates.

A soft reset is similar to pressing the reset button in PCs and has the same effect as pulling out the battery of your phone and then putting it back in. For phones with non-removable batteries, press the volume down and power button together until your phone restarts. Be aware that when using Windows 10, the voume down and power button combination will also launch Windows Feedback. Just continue to hold down the buttons for a full 10 seconds in order to trigger the soft reset. For phones with removable batteries, you can either opt for the button combination or remove the battery and then return it.

A hard reset or a software reset will reformat your phone by removing all the user information leaving only the bare OS and firmware currently installed in your phone. It does erase data so you should always keep a good backup of your phone just in case you have to resort to this option.

The software reset can be done by going to your phone Settings > System > About > tap on "Reset your phone." You will be prompted once before doing this just to be sure. Be sure, also, to have everything backed up since there would be no way to recover all of your files.

The hard reset accomplishes the same thing as the software reset, but can be accomplished when the phone is non-responsive and you are unable to enter into settings. To perform the Hard Reset, "Power off the phone > hold Volume Down > press Power > keep holding Volume Down until you see the exclamation (!) screen, then immediately release the Volume Down. Now tap Volume Up / Volume Down / Power / Volume Down. You should see the spinning gears and your phone will reflash the last OS version held in recovery.

The Software Recovery Tool is the final option, for example for "bricked" phones that would no longer turn on, be charged, etc. This can be used to either roll back to a previous OS version or force an update to a more current OS version[/INFO]
Remember, when reporting bugs be descriptive! The more information you give, the better the chance someone will be able to help you.

What OS version? Any special conditions that should be noted? What were you doing? What is the result? Any error codes or messages given? What have you tried for solutions? What variant of the phone are you using? Single SIM or Dual SIM?

Please describe as much as possible about the bug so others may try and replicate the bug and don't make suggestions for solutions that you have already tried which have failed.
[INFO]When reporting bugs/issues, please also use the Windows Feedback app to report issues directly to Microsoft. Microsoft don't actively read forums looking for people reporting issues when they have a data collection system built right into the operating system. They use WF to analyse numbers and prioritise fixes (issues with more reports, get sorted quicker).

"You can use the Windows Feedback app to tell us which features you love about your Lumia with Windows 10, or when something could be better.
1.To launch the app, swipe over to the App list, and then select Windows Feedback.
2.See if someone else has given similar feedback by entering the topic, such as Microsoft OneDrive.
3.If you find similar feedback, tap the Upvote or tap on the feedback to open it, write the problem details to Add details-field and tap Send.
4.To narrow your search to a specific topic, you can filter the results by picking the category that matches your feedback the closest. For example, for feedback about the Microsoft OneDrive, select Apps and Games > OneDrive.
5.If you dont find any similar feedback, tap + to add new feedback. Select the correct category and subcategory from the dropdown-list.
6.Enter your feedback (the more details the better!), add a screenshot if you can, and tap Send.
7.Your feedback will automatically upload when you are charging your phone and connected to Wi-Fi, but you can also upload the feedback manually by tapping > Upload feedback data."
    [/INFO]

    Improvements and fixes for Mobile

    • We have updated the Store to version 11606.1001.39 with bug fixes.
    • We fixed the issue causing the keyboard to not show up consistently for InPrivate mode on Microsoft Edge.
    • We fixed an issue that could result in an app getting into a state after being suspended where it would be unable to launch until rebooting the device.

    Known issues for mobile:

    • Voice Recorder does not show up consistently as an option for Call Recording. We heard your feedback and plan to release a Voice Recorder app update via the Store soon that has the fix for this issue.
    • Wallet users are prompted for a PIN twice when using tap to pay from a locked phone. You can enter their PIN twice and tap as usual once the phone is unlocked.
    • REMINDER: We have changed the backup format for Windows 10 Mobile devices to reduce the size of the backup stored in OneDrive. As a result, if you do a backup on a device running the latest Windows 10 Mobile Insider Preview builds and move back to the released version of Windows 10 Mobile (Build 10586) and restore from your backup your Start screen layout won't restore and remain the default Start layout. Your previous backup also gets overwritten. If you need to go back to Build 10586 temporarily, once you are on Build 10586 you should disable backup so it doesn't overwrite the good backup from Windows 10 Mobile Insider Preview builds.

Changelog mentions a Store update but I don't see one in Store history, even after soft reset.

14388 needed a little persuasion this go around (had to tap retry message twice, while downloading), other than that ..no problem!

Voice/Call Recorder is still a no-show, oh well....

Did another "check for update" search...hoping I would have a Firmware notification...no-go...

Had Store update: Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Wallet... and Store is still circling... all apps have populated though, so maybe the Store Update?

Well, the Store version number from the changelog is the update from July 9, according to my Store update history. So I'm confused...

Yeah I noticed that store had updated on 7/9, but I didn't know if it was going to update further.

Using word flow on 950XL, and it is slick... Nice and smooth (and pretty accurate!!!!)

    Poopy.

Updated to 14388 on 950 XL DS. Went well... until I tried to open Edge. Or Skype. Or certain options in Options. Tried soft reset a few times. Powered off for 5 minutes, powered back on. Didn't fix it.

Started the monitor from Feedback, showed them what happens, and now I'm hard resetting. Worst part is I just replaced the phone after it stopped vibrating, so I'm going through all the setup frustrations with the new backup scheme... again. :(

Oh well, such is life when living on the edge. Or Edge. Or something.

I've not had a chance to test BT yet, but it worked great on my 950XL and the last build.

BT on build 14385 was very responsive when using my Savi720 headset. Usually I had to wait 2 or 3 seconds for an incoming call to connect, but on the last build the connection was immediate.

Also used another BT headset at the gym, and no issues there either.

I never had any issues on 14385 & Bluetooth. Both my band and headset paired without any issues.

I've noticed that in previous builds, its very difficult to select things in Microsoft edge.

Example if you try clicking on a link in the browser, you have to tap it several times before it actual recognizes the input. This only happens in edge...

There was a known bug. In my case, my pioneer deck in my truck. If trying to turn off Bluetooth through the action center while paired, it causes the phone to freeze and you need to soft reset. Turns off fine through the settings menu though.

Hmmm. It appears my 950XL DS did not charge in the car charger on the way to work this morning. Will have to test further. Hopefully it's not the charging bug (phone not recognizing charger) rearing its ugly head again. That hasn't been a problem for me for many builds now.

I show Voice Recorder in "All Apps", but it fails to launch (been like that for about 4/5 builds; at least it is mentioned in the "Known Issues").

In Settings > System > Phone > Default apps > Choose apps > Choose the app you want to use to manage recorded phone calls = No compatible apps (and grayed out)

Also: Store > Hamburger > Downloads and updates > Recent activity - Fails to popular for a long, long time some times, other times it is very fast? (probably be OK once it settles in).

The Cortana with/without using BT process seems to change ever so slightly (build to build), that becoming familiar with her mood is like flipping a coin (don't know if you are going to get her head, or her tail:).

Been using a Savi720 headset all morning with BT and it is smooth as butter (both Phone Calls and Cortana). Will go to the gym later and test another headset (LG) there using the Groove app, and let you know if I have a problem (950XL, DS, US).

Do you try this right after update and login? If you ever finish an update you need to let it sit after update. You will notice when you swipe to the all apps list that all apps are in pending state. It likely does verification of the entire system and storage. Probably also why there's a bit of battery drain after each update. But I usually don't touch anything till that's done. After that I go to the store and do my updates. Then I reboot and start using.
