Windows 10 build 14936 for PC and mobile rolling out for fast ring Insiders | Windows Central

    What's fixed for Mobile

    • We fixed the issue causing the pin pad to not be visible to unlock the phone even after rebooting the phone.
    • We fixed the issue where some phones lose the ability to use their SIM cards.
    • We fixed the mobile hotspot issue where it works the first time but subsequent attempts to use the feature won't work until the phone is rebooted.
    • We fixed an issue causing some devices such as the Lumia 650 from failing to install a new build with Error 0x80188308.
    • We fixed the issue causing some build updates to fail with an 800703ed error code.
    • We fixed the issue where Action Center no longer closes if you swipe up on the empty space (area of Action Center that doesn't show any notifications).
    • We fixed an issue where notifications were unexpectedly showing the app logo within the notification when viewed in Action Center.
    • We fixed an issue for devices that shipped with Windows Phone 8.1, such as the Lumia 930 and 1520, where if you plugged in a headset during an ongoing call, the audio would not be routed to the headset.

    What's broken on Mobile

    • If you have your default storage set to a SD card for apps, installation of apps like WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger and WeChat will fail with an error. As a workaround, set your default location to your device's onboard storage.

This build and version is the latest Redstone 2 build in testing for Mobile Insiders on the Fast Ring.

Issues? Bugs? Solutions? For all things build 14936, discuss it here.

Is your device behaving oddly, is something just not right? This is the place for discussion of software and hardware issues!
[TIP]Here is some useful information you may find yourself needing.
Some issues with responsiveness and app delays can be resolved by either restarting your phone or performing a Soft Reset.

If things get a bit more serious, you may opt to perform a hard reset or software reset.

Lastly, if things really get serious, you may need the Windows Device Recovery Tool to recover your phone back to working order - head over to the Microsoft FAQ Page for more information.

Make sure you check the official Windows 10 Mobile Support Page as well for some of the most common tips and trouble shooting guides.[/TIP]
[INFO]Restarting your phone involves turning it off and then turning it on again. Turn off your phone by pressing the power button until you are prompted to "Slide down to power off". Turn your phone on again by pressing the power button until it vibrates.

A soft reset is similar to pressing the reset button in PCs and has the same effect as pulling out the battery of your phone and then putting it back in. For phones with non-removable batteries, press the volume down and power button together until your phone restarts. Be aware that when using Windows 10, the voume down and power button combination will also launch Windows Feedback. Just continue to hold down the buttons for a full 10 seconds in order to trigger the soft reset. For phones with removable batteries, you can either opt for the button combination or remove the battery and then return it.

A hard reset or a software reset will reformat your phone by removing all the user information leaving only the bare OS and firmware currently installed in your phone. It does erase data so you should always keep a good backup of your phone just in case you have to resort to this option.

The software reset can be done by going to your phone Settings > System > About > tap on "Reset your phone." You will be prompted once before doing this just to be sure. Be sure, also, to have everything backed up since there would be no way to recover all of your files.

The hard reset accomplishes the same thing as the software reset, but can be accomplished when the phone is non-responsive and you are unable to enter into settings. To perform the Hard Reset, "Power off the phone > hold Volume Down > press Power > keep holding Volume Down until you see the exclamation (!) screen, then immediately release the Volume Down. Now tap Volume Up / Volume Down / Power / Volume Down. You should see the spinning gears and your phone will reflash the last OS version held in recovery.

The Windows Device Recovery Tool is the final option, for example for "bricked" phones that would no longer turn on, be charged, etc. This can be used to either roll back to a previous OS version or force an update to a more current OS version[/INFO]
Remember, when reporting bugs be descriptive! The more information you give, the better the chance someone will be able to help you.

What OS version? Any special conditions that should be noted? What were you doing? What is the result? Any error codes or messages given? What have you tried for solutions? What variant of the phone are you using? Single SIM or Dual SIM?

Please describe as much as possible about the bug so others may try and replicate the bug and don't make suggestions for solutions that you have already tried which have failed.
[INFO]When reporting bugs/issues, please also use the Windows Feedback app to report issues directly to Microsoft. Microsoft don't actively read forums looking for people reporting issues when they have a data collection system built right into the operating system. They use WF to analyse numbers and prioritise fixes (issues with more reports, get sorted quicker).

"You can use the Windows Feedback app to tell us which features you love about your Lumia with Windows 10, or when something could be better.
1.To launch the app, swipe over to the App list, and then select Windows Feedback.
2.See if someone else has given similar feedback by entering the topic, such as Microsoft OneDrive.
3.If you find similar feedback, tap the Upvote or tap on the feedback to open it, write the problem details to Add details-field and tap Send.
4.To narrow your search to a specific topic, you can filter the results by picking the category that matches your feedback the closest. For example, for feedback about the Microsoft OneDrive, select Apps and Games > OneDrive.
5.If you don’t find any similar feedback, tap + to add new feedback. Select the correct category and subcategory from the dropdown-list.
6.Enter your feedback (the more details the better!), add a screenshot if you can, and tap Send.
7.Your feedback will automatically upload when you are charging your phone and connected to Wi-Fi, but you can also upload the feedback manually by tapping … > Upload feedback data."

Using it on my android Asus. Very soothing to eyes. All phones should come with this feature.

On the Lumias, it can be triggered manually by going to colour profile and then moving the slider to warm, but would be nice to have it change gradually and automatically.

So far, iris has improved significantly, noticeably faster, and much more fluid ui. One can now swipe up from half way in the notification tray to close, no longer need to start from the bottom.

Just fixes from previous build work no new features being added... Not that I can find anyway.

Facing terrible issues on the release preview versions, where background tasks stop after some time and most apps stop showing notifications until a soft reset.

Is anyone facing similar problems in the fast ring? If not, I would be willing to switch rings.

Whats broken on mobile only has a single issue listed - c'mon, there are many issues. Are MS not aware of the other bugs or just choosing not to list them?

Instead of criticizing MS, why don't you list the issues here so that people who are willing to jump to the Fast ring can make an informed decision, and also add them on Feedback Hub?

I don't see that much of anything has changed for me, I hadn't any of the issues that this build's changelog refers to as 'fixed, or improved'. I, like everyone else, was unable to close the Action Center by swiping up on an empty area, but with this build I can now, so that's good.

    > I had to uninstall/reinstall my Savi7 headset to get it to be recognized.
    > I found some of my missing text messages in a contacts 'timeline,' which wasn't there, for me, before the update...another big plus.
    > my caller ID app is a no show (grayed out) at the present time.
    > when submitting feedback through the feedback hub (in dark mode), the cursor was a no show...but, so far it shows everywhere else I have tried.

this build is working much better for me than before! My wireless hot spot works again, when i double tap the screen actually wakes up right away instead of having a delay, and overall "seems faster" hah

I'm not criticizing MS, just pointing out that whenever they issue a new release, they don't list all the known bugs, just a very short list of "known issues".

I've had to revert back to the AU because of bugs that occurred on an almost daily basis, to do with the taking/sharing of photos. This persisted across RS2 builds, and the issue does not seemed to have been acknowledged so I have no reason to suspect it's been fixed in the latest build either. I am willing to jump back in to the fast-ring builds at some point, other bugs likely wouldn't bother me so much, but I take and share photos every day at work and when this fails (which it has done in several different ways recently), it causes me a real problem, I don't have time to keep rebooting the phone to clear the problem every time.

So, to end my post, I am sorry you feel I'm criticizing MS, but I do feel the truth is being stretched a little when they list only one known issue. Not that the AU doesn't have issues too though, I've experienced a couple there too in the last few days, but this was nothing to do with the above, though there is still an issue present with sharing photos via Outlook, but not a show stopping one.

Yes, I've noticed that, for me, it ONLY shows things coming up tomorrow or the next day, not today! Haven't checked to see if there are any changes in settings that might affect it.

Yeah, since this is the fast ring, these builds are not tested internally as much, to identify all issues. I am sure there are many issues we, as insiders see before anyone else.

Also, unlike us, I am pretty sure MS employees working on Windows 10 don't use windows mobiles as their daily drivers and it isn't possible to find as many bugs in a test environment, as is possible with real life testing.

Yeah they're probable using their iphones as a DD, and testing how windows works on them.

Hey Speccy, for what its worth, I just took a picture for my 950XL, and sent it from the camera's picture viewer via; one Outlook account, to another, without issue. Also, I empathize with you, it is very frustrating when you go to use something that is vital to the task at hand, and it does perform as it should - even if a fail is a possibility (with fast ring); still makes your job harder.

My Lumia 950XL has lost the hotspot functionality since 14926.

In 14926 it would turn on, but no other device could discover the network. If I turned it off it would not turn on again until reboot.

Now in 14936 I can't turn it on even once. It just turns back off.
