Im not sure of the OS being developed at this stage the past few insider updates have been just performance improvements (they were all minor) and its about to be released this fall. Either the ones insiders have is a beta OS or that the actual OS released as threshold 1 is a beta.

Windows phone is efficient in using its resources and lumia 520 is the most successful windows phone ever. I know how it feels when microsoft abandoned the 7.5 users with a mere cosmetic update. Many bashed upon microsoft then. If the OS is what it claims to be lumia 520 could very well run a WM10 . And I think if it could support, it should.
No the Lumia 520 was the most successful device. I had one too. It was the device people used to see if Windows phone was worth a more expensive device is my guess. That's what I had it for. And if you look at the actual stats you will see lumia 520 is a small fraction of the windows phone market, not even worth it to MS. I mean I used to buy video cards constantly because games would use more and more graphics power. And computers advance quickly. What you have in phones today you didn't even have in computers a few years back.

I've been 100% MS until just recently. SP1 and 3, L920 and 1020, Xbox One etc.

Big things Apple has that MS doesn:

HealthKit and HomeKit. A good watch to pair with phone (thought i'm going to wait for v2 before I buy) that can run apps.

HomeKit is a big reason I pre-ordered a 6S plus and will be moving away from WP. I'm doing renovations right now and am putting in a bunch of smart things such an ecobee 3 thermostat, nest protect, LED lighting, electronic blinds etc. In Apple's ecosystem I'll be able to control everything from my wrist or phone, and maybe TV one day. There's also a good chance my next car (Tesla Model 3) will support iOS but not WP.

As for HealthKit, it's amazing the variety of medical and fitness devices that can hook up to it, and I think that's really neat. If you've got a newborn, or a pregnant wife, or condition you need to monitor, HK is great. I liked the idea behind the Band, the MS health platform, and MS has HealthVault, but it's basically stillborn.

Apple has a neat feature called Medical ID. From the lock screen, you can click it and it gives blood type, allergies and any medical conditions people should know about, emergency contacts and Dr. phone #. Hopefully it'll never be needed but very cool nonetheless.

The strength of the Apple ecosystem isn't just apps (though that's a big thing WP doesn't have) and it's hard to understate it's importance. That's the main reason I'm switching. One day, with universal apps, which I think are absolutely the way to go, Windows may catch up, but it's got a long road ahead of it.

I finally solved this issue. In the Facebook app there is an option to connect it to your phone. I disconnected this and reconnected it and the profile pics finally re appeared.

iOS has Facebook integration(a feature they've had since version 6), where you can connect calendars, contacts, etc. when logging into FB in Settings.

Trying to tie this to feature set is the wrong way to go about things in my opinion. It is about overall perception and experience.
We all know about the experience: iOS has the best apps on anything that cross platform, apps get there first.
As for perception, Apple gives a sh!t... Microsoft's problem is that they aren't even grown up yet so they don't even know how to give a sh!t.
While we're playing catch up, the iPhone is advancing the user experience with things like 3d-touch, the 8Mpx camera on an iPhone 5 I could swear takes better pictures than my 1520 when I need to quick snap without fiddling with settings...
The experience extends to the stores, iPhone breaks, i walk into a store, get it fixed, replaced, but I walk out with a phone that works most times.
Lumia 1520 batterie goes half-life in 12months, there are no stores that'll take it cause I'm in Canada and they don't sell it here, they won't take it in US stores either cause it's the south american model... I order a battery on eBay and change the battery myself... until the next iPhone that is.

Windows phone is in a nasty state, I don't understand how people don't understand that getting the OS right is the bare minimum. People keep referencing the Surface pro as a breakthrough device, I think it is but it is still just an excellent execution of things we already had, nothing new there. The support to back it up is second to none at Microsoft stores.

Phones are different, look at 3D-touch, that's new, look at touch-id, new again, apple-pay, new again ... what exactly did Microsoft bring to the table? live tiles and speed... speed is out now.

Apple is a genius at taking a feature and making the world love it, Live tiles is a f*ckin big deal but it has been out for 3 or 4 years and Microsoft hasn't invested the marketing push needed to make people see the difference.
That is going to keep happening, look at live photos on the 6s, been on Lumias for a while, another feature that has 'now' been invented by apple, there are bloggers and reviewers all around the world spreading it like gospel, it's the second coming of pictures!

Windows mobile is poorly executed no matter how you look at it and it doesn't look like Microsoft is matching Apple in terms of commitment and investment into our cherished platform.

There are so many things that need to get fixed for people to 'see' windows mobile for what it really is... I don't see any of it getting fixed sadly.

    Cheers,

    Biggest difference?

iOS has a decent user base!

Since I have built my Windows Phone app I have a whopping 1 download.

Windows Store and they way Microsoft has configured how you list your app and how their store lists results is the biggest load of (bubbles!) I have ever seen!!
Once I published my own app and could not get it to come back in search results I finally realized why it is so hard to find good apps in the Microsoft store, their search sucks!

I search for my app by name and get a 100 other apps not even related to my app category. Sexy pic apps, soccer apps, gambling apps, etc....
I put in all the search terms possible when publishing my apps.
My app returns IN NONE OF THE SEARCH TERMS.

I contact Microsoft support and they are idiots. They tell me that search results are based on number for downloads. I told them I searched for my app by name (TennisFreak) which is very unique. They told me it only returns when you put it in quotes.
IN QUOTES! WHO THE (POTATO) ON THEIR PHONE KNOWS TO DO THAT!!!!!

So needless to say I have stopped developing Windows phone apps for now. My app has been in the store for almost 6 months and only has 1 genuine download, the other 5 are from me getting on phones downloading on purpose.

I have found ways to trick the store into returning my app in some search results. In the app description at the bottom I have about 1000 random search terms. At least now it returns in more searches.

Let's remove Handoff. You can work within all of the Office apps and continue on different devices. The only handoff that Apple can do that Windows can't is text message handoff but I am not sure if that can be handed off between device. But why would you anyway?

3d touch is the equivalent of a right click or long tap to bring up a contextual menu. It is supposed to do different things with different pressure. However, I haven't seen anything demoed that show anything unique here. Not sure how often handoff is actually used by users. I personally have no interest in using a tablet or laptop as a phone. The ability to continue using an app were you left off on another device can be useful occasionally. Touch ID is very convenient. Hopefully, windows hello can match it. Frankly, mobile payments should be standardized. However, Apple has been able to get more banks and merchants to use their system than android, even though android and WP had the ability to do this for much longer.

Background App Refresh is something Windows Phone does not have.
    What do you mean?

In win 8.1 I have some programs that refresh in the background, like OneNote and 2day, and in the battery sense it shows the apps that can work in the background.

windows phone first of all has a very unorganized interface of all os's. the front screen (the tiles) are making wp look ugly, the all black everything makes it dull and the fonts so unpredictable, somewhere big somewhere small... wp fanboys think of apps as the main thing chasing users , but the problem is the ui itself. change that first and then speak about apps. So ios with all its limitation it is still miles better than wp. this is coming from an android user / windows desktop user

I'm confused. You seem to be implying W10M can't do this. I have Facebook calendar integrated into my W10M calendar and I have Facebook contacts integrated into my W10M contacts.

I'm not being sarcastic or anything. It would make my day knowing how to do this between my WIndows Phone and Surface Pro 3:

    - Make and answer mobile phone calls from my Surface Pro 3 without skype, Wifi network or even Internet connection.
    - The same thing for SMS.
    - Start writing an email, document, or whatever on a Windows Phone, continue on my Surface Pro 3 and vice versa without WIfi or Internet connection.
    - Enable disable the Windows Phone internet sharing feature from my Surface Pro 3. I'm tired of reaching to my pocket to enable Internet Sharing then talking my SP3 out to work. I tried leaving it on all the time, but the problem is that it happened that while at home ot the office SP3 actually connected to the phone rather the local Wifi. So its not a solution.
    ...

Thank your for the advice. Lets forget handoff?

I can tell you that outside of US not even Cortana is missed. I live in Europe, speak 3 languages, so I actually have Windows 10 on my SP3 configured with an US account for Cortana sake. I don't get all the data has I would be if I was in the US. But for basic stuff is pretty stupid. The only time it recognizes my wife is if I tell Cortana "send email to Kirsten Brown". If simply write "Kirsten Brown" sends me to the Web. If I select local stuff is only able to present me a picture of her and me, magically.

Lumia had the best cameras two years ago. My iPhone 6 Plus and LG G4 both take pictures that look better to my eyes than the Pureview on my Lumia. The 1020 had an amazing camera, and that one would beat the 6 Plus and G4 I am sure (although it was kind of an odd-ball phone due to the huge camera), but the other Lumia cameras don't stand out today like they did two years ago.

Features? It's more about foundations than features.

What iOS has, that WM10 hasn't:

    - Stability
    - UI Consistency and Polish
    - Performance

    Same issues as WP 8.1.
If you think performance is fine, compare the smoothness of basic stuff such as pinch/zoom on an old iPhone 4 and a vastly more powerful Lumia Icon or Lumia 920.
