Re: windows 10 mobile on 4gb devices

i understand why 4gb devices wont upgrade to w10m over the air but why microsoft isnt make this possible using a tool even the wdrt?

Try running it on a 530 and you'll see for yourself. To save you the trouble, it's not pleasant. In my opinion, it's just one of those things that fall into the category of "Just because you can, doesn't mean you should".

It runs beautifully on the newly launched 550 having a SD210 vs the SD200 on the 530. Microsoft has a memory cap on the OS for 512MB devices for 3rd party apps but the built in ones, which does even it the differences between having a 1GB device v/s 512MB so that's not an issue either. It's more to do with how much is Microsoft inclined towards supporting the 530.

@OP: 4GB devices are supported as per the hardware requirements documentation so you'll get it* when Microsoft releases it officially (unless they change their plan).

Actually the hardware requirements have been updated. Windows 10 mobile does support a minimum of 4GB onboard storage. Source

This seems very contradictory. The only conclusion this leaves is that existing 4GB devices will not be updated, despite W10M technically being able to run on them.

Right now this is what I'm assuming.

Section 2.3.4 of the source link contains this note:
"To ensure successful upgrade, it is recommended that a device with 4 GB of nonremovable flash storage includes an SD card slot."

^ Yeah, that's the contradictory part, as MS previously stated no 4GB device would be updated. See the page gpobernardo linked to.

The requirements page was updated after WC published the story...so can't blame anyone. May be it was just an oversight by WC to not release a followup article. Most of the claims were made on assumptions anyways.

Re: windows 10 mobile on 4gb devices

Am I to understand my Lumia 730 will be able to update to win 10?
I was under impression till now that I will not be able to update. And i had firmly thought that if I won't be able to update on release, I will not be buying Lumia again as this happened the 3rd time with me, 1st Lumia 800, then Lumia 720 and now Lumia 730.

Both the 720 and the 730 are upgradeable to Windows 10.
