Hard reset with sd card

Hello,

I need to do a hard reset on my 950XL. When I try, it asks if I want to erase my SD card. My question is what do I choose? If I don't erase, and restore from a backup, does it use the apps stored on the card? If I erase and restore from backup, does it restore the stuff that wad in the card to the card? There is no information on this that I can find. This works me a great rips on this site.

It will make you erase the card if you set it up with apps. It takes forever if you have a big card. I just formatted it in my computer and reset everything up.
