Does the Continuum box support miracast?

Is it also a miracast receiver so that I wouldn't always have to connect a 950 via a cable?

If you are talking about the Microsoft Display Dock, also called the Continuum Dock, then no, it is not a MiraCast receiver. You will need to purchase that separately or use a MiraCast enabled TV or Monitor.

Yeah, the display dock. Given that the 950 supports continuum over miracast and also wired into the display dock, it seems like a missed opportunity to make a single display dock that supports both. Essentially the functionality of both these devices:
