I have been reading a lot on forum about low WM10 battery life. Let's post the battery usage along with the phone model.

Here is mine from my L1520 on WM10

Estimated level remaining... 2 days!

What's going on with my brand new Lumia 950 with it's 3000 mha battery.... I just charged my phone and it only estimates 11 hours of battery remaining.

Wondering if I should do a fresh install. My 950 started life with a backup from my old Lumia 920 (which had a shot battery... so it's more or less life as normal).

Other than the battery issue, I'm loving my 950.

after weeks of torture I gave up on the new skype+messaging app, which is just as bad as the old official one anyway, after blocking it from running in background "I think" my battery life is back to 8.1 levels, which means my phone no longer lives in a qi charger and I don't need to constantly turn airplane mode and battery saver on while using it outdoors

My display is always eating up 80-90 %. Is that normal?

Try reducing the screen brightness. It also depends on how often you take a look at your screen.
Example is : If you receive lots of messages, notifications, then for every notification you are switching on the screen from sleep mode, then battery utilization by the screen will be higher.

Although I know that a fresh install is the best way to run a new OS, I tested your scenario on my 920. It has an older OS that was having issues and I upgraded directly to latest WM10 .36 and it has the same issue as your phone.

I would definitely recommend a fresh install. After the install, you can download your favorite apps from Store>Downloads and Updates

well I think messaging was the culprit, battery seems to be doing fine now and I even perceive the overall phone stability to be improved

The fresh install definitely helped. The estimated battery time jumped to around 1 day & 5 hours. However, it didn't stay true to that estimate.... & I suspect the drain rate was much the same.

In any case, I've another problem. My 950 won't turn on :-S. The phone was at around 50% battery & on a wireless charging plate when it shut off. Tried all the obvious things like removing battery, volume + on button etc. I don't have the USB cable with me, so will try that when I'm home. Otherwise, it's gonna be a warranty replacement.

Don't worry much about that. I have the same issue with my L950 dual sim. But with moderate use, you'll easily get 20hours before the phone turns off when battery falls to 5%. Use the battery app from store to monitor.

Also if you're using your cellular data connection continuously to browse the web & check social apps regularly say once in 30min, don't expect more than 12 hours of battery life. But try using wifi you'll be easily able to get more than 15 hours.

Also, disable Microsoft edge from running in background. And make sure to close edge after you use it.

Fresh install won't change much, except for the first couple of charges you'll see estimated time remaining as 1 day 10 hours. But after you start using, the estimated time changes according to your usage pattern.

I would also set EDGE not to allow background updating. Especially if you have a lot of tabs open, it is likely updating webpages in the background you are not even aware are open.

What's the trade off with disabling EDGE in the background..?

Mail/Calendar is a huge battery drain, mostly background. Nextgen is expected as I read a great deal with it.

Generally about 6-8 hours battery life. Still much worse than on 8.1.
