I don't understand the logic of the carrying around two devices because one can't do everything. What is the benefit to carrying around the 950xl in the above scenario? I think if one phone can do everything I need, that would be preferable.

I don't carry around both. I keep Nexus at home. Yes, I would be happy if one could do everything, but Nexus can't charge wireless and no live tiles. And Lumia doesn't have all the apps.

Easy: have your Lumia phone, and for a multitude of apps, sell the nexus for an iPad Air 2 or iPad Mini 4.
