This should be a no brainer. The 1520 is outdated, take the 950 XL. My 1520 is now collecting dust while I'm enjoying the 950 XL.

Sent my 950XL back, lack of double tap was a significant reason, but then my 1020 is still working as well as ever. You do not seem to have a choice, but you sound like me and will be frustrated to the max with the XL.

I got my XL a few days ago. It sucked out of the box but after I installed that Microsoft MDG update, it was so smoooth. No "Loadinggggggggggg." at all. However I agree with you about double tap to wake. What's funny is that is has double tap to lock the phone but no double tap to wake

i love on-screen buttons. this makes the appearance of the phone elegant and simple. i don't like real buttons which cannot be hidden and make the phone looks clumsy.

I'm the opposite. With on-screen buttons you either have to resign yourself to sacrificing the space they take up, or you put them on auto-hide and you have to flick them up every time. Damn nuisance.

The 1520's buttons are still part of the glass, so basically not visible except when the phone is powered up, when they are lit. By far the most elegant solution compared with the obvious cost-cutting of the 950XL.

Three weeks ago, I sent my Lumia 1520 to repair because of the "ghost-touch" issue. I had to send it by post to Madrid because since Microsoft acquired Nokia the technical service was removed in Barcelona.

Some days ago I sent them an e-mail because after two weeks I had still not received any news on the repair status of my device. So it seems I had to send an e-mail first (argh) for them to let me know that they are NOT giving me back my Lumia 1520 (!!!) because the compontents have been discontinued, but sending me a Lumia 950XL instead, BUT, because for some odd reason Microsoft still doesn't have stock of the 950 or 950XL in Spain, they cannot send it yet.

First I was very angry because of this news, because I love the Lumia 1520 design and I find the 950 and 950 XL to be awful. Also I hate on-screen buttons and, oh god, NO DOUBLE TAP TO WAKE?! And as I've read the battery life is not as good as the one on the 1520.

So what do you guys think? Do you think I should push to get my 1520 back, or accept the 950 XL? What are the advantadges of the 950XL other than the Continuum feature in comparison to the Lumia 1520?

You are getting a good deal. I would take it

I wish I could that deal,, just today they told me that the preview build I am using (1-27-2016) is not intended for the 1520. Why did MSFT and AT&T PUSH IT OUT? The recovery tool does not recognize the as it did 3 weeks ago . If only they would give me a replacement 950/950xl I'd be a happy camper. It's too bad because I like the windows phone in general, but as is my LG escape probably works better.

This is a no brainer. The 1520 has been discontinued and they're sending you a brand new device.

Tap to wake? Come on. You don't want to press a button?

I'd be happy that you can sell the XL and buy 2 1520's (one as a back up) or a 1520 and a 1020 or a 1520 and pocket the rest. You have options, but I'd sorely miss my 6" screen personally.

In what way is the 1520 outdated? Give us some technical details, and comparison with current phones.
Snapdragon 800 was released in 2013, Snapdragon 810 in 2015. 1080p vs 2K, newer camera algorithms 1.3MP front facing camera vs 5MP front facing camera Dual-LED flash vs Triple LED etc. No USB 3.0 or type-C on the 1520, no continuum, no security features like a finger print/iris scanner too. 1520 has a bit of bezel and thickess to it compared to the 950XL but that was part of the design at the time.

That's it really.

The 950 spec wise rolling off the line 3 years later would give it an edge on ticking the boxes on features that did not exist previously.

However it still does not make the 1520 outdated. The 1520 still has it's larger screen, great battery and W10 upgrade going for it. It's still running W10 and some would say smoother than the 950.

If someone knew nothing about these phones and you put a brand new 950xl and a brand new 1520 in their hands (both on W10) I'd bet most would assume the 1520 is the flagship phone. The feel alone would determine that.

Spec wise the 950 absolutely is better, but I'd put the 1520 against iPhone 6 and Galaxy phones which still makes it relevant and king of phablet @ 6 inches.

No, you actually made a good swap, the XL is a great phone. Those are minor design things. Double tap to wake might come back anytime. Enjoy it, it's really a great Lumia. For example, you won't have ghost-tough because that's a design flaw.

Get it and sell it to buy another 1520. That phone has no equal in the WP device annals of fame, I doubt the same will be said of the 950 series phones after they have been retired.

Cough cough, little early to assume these new phones won't have their share of issues. The OLED screen alone is going to cause countless burn in threads in about 8 months just like the 1020. I have 2 1520's and neither have the ghost touch. :)

Again, not saying getting a phone you can sell for 500.00 for a phone you can buy for 200.00 is a bum deal either. I'd take it and at least try out the 950XL for a few weeks.

the keys are still visible even if the 1520 is powered off.
