Multitasking limited to 7... or not?

So I remember reading an article in WinCentral about the multitasking got limited to only 7 apps back then.

However, recently I found that on my Lumia 950, some apps that I haven't used in quite a long time (and ultimately didn't show up in the multitasking window due to recently opened apps) are still running and still accessible by pressing back on the Start Screen.

Did anyone noticed the same thing?

I think the task screen in w10m is more of a list of apps you ran in the past, rather than what is running.

that could be the case, but then again what's the point of limiting to only show 7 apps?

maybe the 950 is capable of running more than 7 but only shown 7 latest running apps by the system, while lower-spec'd phones are strictly limited to maximum of 7 running apps?

The apps aren't running, they are suspended in the phones memory.

The limit maybe due to the memory available on the device.

with "running", I actually meant "running in the background" or "suspended"
my bad...

its been like that since forever on wp, keep pressing back and its like going back in time step by step

yes, but back in the 8.1 days the app would still appear when you long press the back button
