Hey all,

Was wondering on Reddit and ran into this. With your current phone, even on 10 or 8.1, if the software is available on Microsoft's servers for 8.1, NOW is the time to back it up so if 10 breaks something big and you NEED to go back to 8.1 you can. Once the restore option is on 10, you can NO LONGER go back to 8.1...So this would be something I would think MOST people would like, JUST IN CASE.

This downloads the official ROM for your phone, you back it up, and you use a 3rd party off line installer to flash your phone. 6 Months down the line, you want to roll back to 8.1, you wont be able to, this assures that you will be able to.

It's also nice to have it off line so if you wanted to restore, it's quicker as it does not have to re-download it...

Before its too late, simply follow my instructions below!
Step 1: Download Windows Device Recovery Tool http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=525569
Step 2: Launch the software, insert the USB cable from computer to your phone. A few seconds later your phone should appear on the list. When the phone appears, simply click on it to proceed.
Step 3: Click the "Reinstall software" option. The software will download the ROM first from the Microsoft server BEFORE flashing your phone. This is how you will capture the image.
Step 4: Disconnect the USB cable after it begins downloading the ROM. This is necessary to prevent the tool from wiping away your CURRENT settings. The idea here is to allow the software to detect the phone so you can push ROM to machine, then YANK the USB cable after the fact.
Step 5: Navigate to C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Packages\Products. Right-click on RM-XXX and save it your preferred storage device.
Step 6: Download the WP Internals 1.2 tool from http://www.wpinternals.net/index.php/downloads/doc_download/38-windows-phone-internals-1-2
Step 7: Simply extract the ZIP file, right-click on WPInternal.exe and run it as Administrator
Step 8: In WP Internals, on the far left side underneath Platform, click on Flash...
Step 9: In the "Flash original FFU" option, click on Select the FFU-file to flash to the phone...
Step 10: Browse to the location where you saved the "RM-XXX" folder, then select the FFU file.
Step 11: Click on Flash FFU image
Boom your phone will be flashed back to 8.1 using an offline tool.

GOOD LUCK ! I did my ICON....just in case..

great thingy :) thank you for sharing. but it doesn't seem Microsoft will be killing off wp 8.1 rom from its server anytime soon. windows 10 has just started to grow. many people will rollback even on official upgraded devices. but just in case.
