Is it worth buying a 640 or 650 right now?

@ the OP (if you are still looking at this thread)

Actually if I were making the choice today I'd go with the native Win10 mobile device.
The 650 looks like a winner to me so far.

The good deals on the 640 seemed to be limited to the US anyway (bought 2 of them for friends needing phones).
I'd say go with the last Lumia.

for $29, the 640 is a great phone. I would buy a New $119 Moto E or G first. at least you will have Apps and a Warranty.
The 640 is SLOW, camera is pretty bad, battery life is terrible (3 hours SOT will kill it) and likely will never see windows 10.
and if it did get 10, it will run even slower.
Android is a better way to go.

Not true at all. For the price its fine. It's not going to be as fast as a flagship phone but it isn't shore at all. The camera is great for a $30 phone. Takes great pictures in daylight. Battery is great much better than the 650. This was one of the first phones that was win 10 ready.

False. Lumia 650's SD212 drains the half of 640's SD400.
A whole intensive workday in Redstone for me

You are joking, right?

I won't even try to explain what's wrong in your post.

Anyone wondering if L640 is a good phone, believe me it's beautiful device. It's nice, it's fast, good camera, good battery, supported, cheap... if that's what you need from your phone, just buy it, you'll no regret.

Or if you want device which will never receive any update, which will give you possibility to download millions (unneeded) apps, if you choose quantity over quality, and if you want your phone look like toy, then go with android.

You are right.
L640 LTE is very good, fast , good battery (online all day, 24/24h). Net fast, work very well with office and cloud. I have this phone from 1 year, it's cool.

I've had a 640 running Win10 for over 6 months and it's been a very solid phone for me. My wife broke her older Lumia and we replaced her phone with a 640 as well. It's very responsive, battery lasts all day easily and I have no issues with the Camera. It's a $30 phone at this point in most places so you are not going to get top tier hardware but if you want a smart phone running Windows 10 and your on a budget it's a great phone and I'd highly recommend it. My original intent was to use the 640 temporarily while I saved up for a 950 but I found that the 640 was filling all my needs so I never felt the need to upgrade.

there is some serious FUD there.
  • the 640 already has the W10 update
  • the Camera is - for the price of this phone - STUNNING
  • the battery life on the 640 is amazing (at least on WP 8.1)
Battery Life is also good on W10, i took my l640 off the charger monday 7:00pm, it's now thursday 11:37am and it still has 30% charge left.

It might be true, it still not on par with the l640 though.

I am going to have to disagree with you there. My wife has the 640 & it runs buttery smooth and fast. My 640 XL is equally fast. My 635 is on 10586.338 & the battery life is superb and it runs almost as fast as my 640 XL and it's a 512 MB phone.

I just got ad email from Microsoft - "Try now - the latest Outlook for Android‏". This Outlook for Android has new features, mine on W10M not.

It looks like a clear message.

I planned to upgrade from 830 to 950XL, but messages like that really put into question this whole idea with staying on W10M. What for? To be a second class customer?

Lumia 640 (on AT&T anyway) does have the official windows 10 update out now, I just updated mine. That might skew the discussion a bit.

When did this happen? I've checked both my 640 XL and my wife's 640 & the upgrade advisor app days that it's still working with my mobile provider. Both our phones are AT&T branded.

As far as I can tell today. I rolled my 640 back to 8.1 a few days ago and just checked today.
