After using both they feel like 2 different apps. The app on PC by FAR is way more stable than mobile, but it somewhat feels a bit like a web wrapper. While the mobile app crashes often and doesnt even have the same icon designs or the web wrapper feel of the pc app.

The pc app has live and performs better. The messenger app on pc feels more like they are universal in design. It is more stable but I notice it's missing the video recording and picture taking options (unless I overlooked them)

Why the differences between the mobile and pc apps? Is the design of the pc app what mobile will eventually be. Or are they not really universal?

that's your answer then: the apps are not on the same versions. If they were, then they would have nearly the same feature set

the camera app from MS is universal windows platform but can you do a 4 second exposure from camera app on a pc? You can't because it hasn't been made available yet for that device.

Being a UWP app does not always mean that updates are released at the same time for all form factors. Especially when it comes to facebook apps, they have issues and delays

universal means its using the "modern" way of doing apps on pc, sandboxed and crippled to run like a phone app, it doesnt mean its the same app everywhere

stability is hardly an issue on pc when you have orders of magnitude more raw performance than any phone, and if you like that why not try this one instead? https://messengerfordesktop.com/

it is WAY better, has black theme, drag & drop files, faster and has almost everything from official app, and it will stop your phone app from ringing if you're chatting on pc

if you want stability on mobile just go back to the old 8.1 messenger app, it just "works" and its actually made for wp, has a bunch of features the "new" one doesnt while keeping 97% reliability

I think so, never tried it but have seen some people try calling me, thankfully I can mute the ringing since its a win32 app and shows up at volume mixer

It's not a web wrapper but it is using their own porting system which tends to make things slow. It takes forever to load but once it's loaded it's nice. Unfortunately people will choose the website over the app because it takes forever to load. So again UWP usage will be low and facebook will see that.

Keep in mind that web heavy applications might as well be web wrappers as long as they do a good job with scaling and integrating os features. Even with all the separate non-web code it still loads a huge amount of web based stuff that can't be avoided.

I actually don't mind the amazon web wrapper and it has the chance to actually evolve into something nice if they keep working on it.
