That's not correct. Micro USB to HDMI is the protocol for SlimPort, which is used by many phones to mirror their displays. As long as the phone supports MHL via the micro USB port, it's good to go.

No. HDMI-out on Windows phones requires a minimum SD808 processor which the 650 does not have. You can connect wirelessly with a dongle (if your HDTV doesn't have Miracast) and mirror your display on the bigger screen. The Microsoft Wireless Adapter or the Screenbeam Mini 2 are your best options for doing this and they're both around $50 at the Microsoft Store and Best Buy or you can find them cheaper on Amazon or eBay.

To my knowledge an adapter is required for prior USBC devices? Micro usb to hdmi adapter (with power supply attached) and then from the adapter to HDMI port on TV.
Also... I would strongly recommend the HD10 display adapter which works flawlessly.

Not true. Any phone that has HDMI-out can use micro USB. I do so all the time with my Passport and it doesn't have USB-C. Besides, the OP has a L650 so it's a moot point anyway. He's forced to use a wireless adapter if he wants to mirror his display.

Do the micro usb to HDMI cables need a usb power supply too? @fatclue_98 at the HDMI side of the cable I noticed a USB mini cable coming from it, suggesting the cable needs power to amplify the signal. Not a statement but a question... cheers.

Which adapter are you referring to? Typically, there is a port to attach a charging cable since the USB port is also the charging port. I prefer wireless dongles and using Miracast. Most phones don't have USB-OTG to run keyboards, etc. so the wired method might not be for you.

Not referring to an adapter, referring to a cable, micro usb to HDMI, the cables I looked at had a small cable (at the HDMI side of cable) with a PC sized USB plug on it. Perhaps this is for charging a device at the same time. no worries, I already have a wireless display setup using the HD10.

If you have a Roku 3 media player, that works as well just like the HD-10 wireless display adapter.

These dongles need to be powered. So the usb port is for providing power. My ScreenBeam Mini 2 is plugged into my TVs Usb port
