The Windows 10 April 2018 update has arrived! Get the new Dell XPS 15, starting at $999.99

I have a L820 & L520 with W10M. It was a insider devices when it was possible. Now they are stuck on 10586.545 & won't update to latest 10586 build, that is 10586.753 at the moment.

I have done two factory resets, but still they say that the device is up to date.

Does anyone have a clue why they behave like this?

They are still nice phones & I have them as spare and test. I would like to keep them up to date with latest 10586 as long as it is possible.

    Thank you in advance.

Yes, they are not officially supported so you will not get any updates beyond those.

Okay, so it is not a local device problem then, it is Microsoft that does the limitation. I read some where that they should continue with security updates for 10586. But they then have disqualified the Lumias from that if I understand you correct. To bad...

Any TechNet article on that, or similar?

You have to leave the Insider Program to get to the latest 10586 build

Microsoft appear to have blocked the unsupported Lumias from receiving any updates now (I previously got to 10586.545 after leaving the Insider Preview towards the end of last year). However I have just managed to upgrade a phone straight from the original 10586.107 release build to 10586.753 (the January 2017 Threshold 2 build) by converting it to Windows 10 Mobile Enterprise edition, which does still receive updates regardless of whether the device is on the supported list if you select the Current Branch for Business for your updates - I will post a how-to shortly :)

    Thank you very much.

I'm lucky to have a MVLC account. So the ISO SW_CD_Windows_10_Mobile_Enterprise_1511_License_English_X20-86306.iso is now downloaded with the mobileenterprise.xml

Will take a look at how to build the provisionpackage tomorrow.

W10M Enterprise Provisioning Package created :)

I got two files, one .cat & one .ppkg . Is it only the .ppkg that is necessary to copy over to the W10M device?

I'll try to apply it when I'm back home in the evening.

Just the .ppkg yes, copy it over and a prompt should appear asking if you want to apply it.

Thank you for your time and patience in doing this, it's much appreciated. I have reached out to see if your thread can become a sticky because many people ask how to do this all the time.

Thanks, thought it would be useful to write it up as I had been trying to work out how to do this for a while

I suspect the second part of it (updating from to 10586.753 or later) will stop working once Redstone 2 is released though as the Current Branch for Business will presumably then contain Redstone 1, unless anyone knows of a way to configure the update branch to continue to be Threshold 2 (you'd think there'd be a way, I'm no expert on enterprise device management unfortunately!). The other option if this over-the-air method stops working is to download all the updates form the Windows Update Catalogue ( for 10586.753) and push them to the device using iutool.exe, but this always failed for me after a while on "preparing updates 2%".

Earlier today I created the .ppkg & now I also have copied it to my L520 & L820 . Did a check for updates, checked Defer upgrades & did a new Check. So now 10586.753 is downloading. So far it has worked out like a charm! :)

    Thank you!

I almost forgot that I also have an L925 & this one have 10586.682 , like Grant Taylors L1020 above. So MS must have released it to public for some devices.

But now it has the W10M Enterprise .ppkg & .753 is downloading in that one also.

I think it was maybe available for a short while for unsupported devices and then they did something to block all the unsupported devices, I have a 625 and a 1020 which both got .545 after leaving the Insider Preview but then I never got anything newer, but maybe I just didn't check for updates in time before they blocked it, as no build of now finds any updates (not even .545). Obviously Microsoft don't want more W10M users and would prefer we are all stuck on 8.1 or older builds of 10 - after all it's not like they need more users of it!
