Just to let everyone who is still on the Threshold 2 branch of Windows 10 (great for older Lumias that were never supported for Redstone, or if you want a more stable branch of W10M) that 10586.839 has dropped today (March 2017 Patch Tuesday)

See http://forums.windowscentral.com/win...ed-lumias.html for how to get it if your phone is reporting that no updates are available and you are currently on either 8.1 or a 10.0.10586.xxx build lower than .839.

Keep enjoying those great Nokia devices! This should work on all Lumias that shipped with WP8.x except the 4 GB ones that could never run any version of W10M.

Feel free to post below how you get on, or if you need any help getting the update.

Yes, the Threshold 2 branch runs fine on 512 MB RAM devices - these devices were for supported for the original Insider Preview so it is kinda supported on them, unlike Redstone which was only ever supported in any way on the Lumias that could officially get Threshold 2.

There is at least one device officially supported by Windows 10 Mobile, but which seems unlikely to ever get Redstone 1 or newer due to lack of cooperation by the OEM: The Acer Liquid Jade Primo.

Microsoft had previously publicly stated that they would support the Threshold 2 release of Windows 10 Mobile until January 2018. As long as all supported W10M devices could be officially updated to RS1, they could reasonably state that they were living up to that commitment, without actually releasing any new TH2 cumulative updates, by recommending users install the RS1 update.

But Acer's holdout position left Microsoft in the undesirable position of having exactly one officially supported TH2 device which could not install RS1. Security and stability problems would therefore go un-patched in this TH2 device. I view this is a simple case of Microsoft reluctantly living up to its life-cycle commitments with respect to TH2 given the constraints they're facing from this one particular OEM.

Yes that is strange that the Acer didn't get (or hasn't yet got) the upgrade, considering how new it is. I think the continued release of Threshold 2 updates is also in line with the way that Windows 10 servicing works more generally (i.e. across desktop and mobile) though, as the Current Branch for Business (one feature update behind the latest) always remains supported rather than businesses having to immediately upgrade to the latest feature update - what we are doing with Enterprise edition to receive these updates is the same as configuring a Windows 10 PC to be on the CBB. There are references to a Long Term Servicing Branch for Mobile as well which would in theory allow updates to be received for even longer, but I can't find anything about how to get this edition of W10M.

Wouldn't that be the W10M enterprise?

With the desktop of Windows 10 there is the normal Enterprise edition and there is also the LTSB edition which has much longer support - I have seen references to LTSB for Mobile but I can't find anything about how you get it, or if it does actually exist.
